Hi all,
my D70 recently started to develop a thin red line on every image with a red dot at 12 o'clock' I can also see a blue dot at 3 o'clock
I have included a sample image.
Does this mean that the sensor in the D70 is faulty ?
Any advice is very welcome.
Cheers

If that happens on every photo, then there's something wrong with your sensor.

I think you are being followed by the CIA, who have a laser sighted high-powered rifle trained on you at all times.....

CD,
Need to send it back for warranty if it appears on each of your photos and it's weird to have the "thin red line" like it.
What have you done with it? last time inbuilt flash did not pop up and now it's the laser point.

Hi Digitor,
now that's scary.
It is not only me !
THEY are now targeting the entire CBR D70 users group !
And I guess the torrential rain including hail on Saturday
was THEM testing a new weapon.
OMG !
THEY also tried to destroy Wombat's D70 !!!
I can see the pattern emerge.
What should we do ?

It will go to Maxwell AFTER
sailing on a tall ship in March.

CD - I would try what glamy suggested and try another lens and see if it happens again.
I would also reformat the CF before trying a sample shot

Sirch55,
thank you for the advice.
Even after formatting the card and using different lenses,
the red line is still there.
I could comtemplate a sensor clean,
however the D70 needs to go to Maxwell at some stage anyway because the onboard flash died a while ago.
Thanks again.

I know this may be in the outfield but I have this thought. There is a light coloured dot and then a straight line - it reminds me of the prism effect. It could be a minute piece of reflective material that is reflecting light down a straight path - as I said it is in the outfield but a clean of the sensor may cure it - who knows!!!

Chris,
I don't think the cleaning solution or formatting the CF card may help!
CD,
Better send it back to Maxwell direct, instead of giving to the store, it'll be delayed in between the store and Maxwell and please do understand it's only 6 weeks to Easter Holiday, don't be without it on Easter Holiady!
If you have any problem, send it to me in Sydney and I'm off to Maxwell for you.

Hi Birddog114,
I appreciate your help very much !
Let us all tell the rest of the D70users how extremely helpfull you are, constantly going out of your way and being of service any time you can.
I have not met another soul on this earth being of service like you except for the Dalai Lama and some Tibetan Monks.
I am deliberatly making this compliment to you and also want the D70 community to know your exquisite attitude.
Best regards

I'd suggest a phone call to Maxwell to get a feel if it will be back in time for Tall ships on 20 Mar if you send it immediately since I think you'll be disappointed with this in every shot you take.

Maxwell won't give you any ideas nor estimation until they see the D70 and find out what wrong with it!.
Send it to me and I'll bring it into Maxwell for you with a copy of your receipt

I would take Birddog's advice and send it in. Stubbsy is right, you will be dissapointed with every shot till then, plus have tons of pp. 4.5 weeks away, you should be ok for the tall ships

Even though it will be difficult to be without your camera, I think it should go in ASAP. Having 2 faults at once must be worse than not having the camera.
Good luck.

I would concur with those suggesting taking the camera in sooner rather than later. The results you're going to be getting now will only frustrate you untill you get the problem rectified.

Sorry about your camera - nothing related to Saturday nite? didn't get "wet"?
My camera seems to be OK - apart form lens and flash.
Hope all goes OK and you get it back before Tall Ships in Sydney

Isn't that interesting! Do you think it may have been a tiny speck of water doing that?

Hi phillipb,
I honestly dont know. However it wouldn't have been water from that night because it started on previous pictures.
A little while ago I checked for dustbunnies, found a few and used some compressed air out of a can and also a squeegy pump blower.
The line started to appear exactly after that.
Cheers

From what I've heard, compressed air can leave moisture behind.

Glad your D70 is now shipshape CD.
Wasn't it nice of Birdie to offer to take your camera to Maxwells for you?
Your attitude is inspiring Birdie. I'm going to try to go out of my way to help someone tomorrow and spread the inspiration.

Hi Birddog114,
are you suggesting I blew the compost out of the flash ?
HEY people, don't blow the compost out of your flash !
BD114, I think I have an idea what may have killed the onboard flash, but I can't tell, it is classified.
If its true it may also void the warranty, something I need to avoid !
Regards

Glad to hear that the problem was something that could be fixed with a quick clean. My first clean resulted in a line that looked like I had broken the corner of the LP filter. Instant heart attack!
A couple of weeks ago, I had my first problem. The AF stopped AF'ing. At first I thought that it was low light, but I had the SB800 on with focus assist lamp turned on. Hmmm... back inside. Same. It was hunting from infinity and back. Hard reset fixed that problem, but it took a menu reset, 2 button reset and another hard reset to get menus and settings straightened out. It was stuck in Mode1 and normal curve, and no amount of fiddling would allow changes.
Needless to say that Maxwell will see the camera back if the problem reoccurs.
I have seriously entertained the idea of getting a second body as a backup. Whatever happens, this body needs to go back to Maxwell for a focus adjustment. I have been holding out until the end of the wet season that has so far been nothing but dry.
Cheers

I guess if you are a professional photographer making a living of photohgraphy you have to have another camera.

The Red line and dot is placed nicely at the rule of thirds. The blue dot needs to be moved over to a third in PP then you have a great pic here. Wonderful lighting. Inspiring
Thought you wouldn't mind me making light of this since it's all worked out. Glad to hear your D70 isn't getting sent in.

That would do it.
You should never use compressed air cans or the like anywhere near your sensor. The propellant may leak out and onto your sensor ....
