Cheap Point and Shoot

Postby Jeff on Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:01 pm

With Christmas close at hand my grandson has decided that I should get him a camera.
Have you guys got any ideas on cheap point and shoot cameras and where the best place to buy them.

Anything canon ixus is great in the p&s line Jeff :)

If money is your concern then http://www.staticice.com.au will tell you where you can get the particular model you've picked at the cheapest price

I second the Canon IXUS range is great for my wife has had two, and both have been good for the purpose they have served.

not meaning to be repetitive, but I've had an ixus 75 for a while now and for the price you can get these things at the moment, they're great, well built, reliable and very compact!

I still have my IXUS 40 and the stupid thing just wouldn't break so I could upgrade to an IXUS 70

I would prefer that over the 75 as I once broke the LCD on the IXUS 40, but could still use the viewfinder.

The other (more expensive) option would be the Olympus mju 790SW. It's shockproof and can take photos up to 3m underwater.

I have a couple of friends who have Oly mju770's (older sibling of the 790) and they can't kill them. I saw them taking underwater video's with them on a recent kayaking trip which I thought was fairly brave / foolish but neither of them have ever experienced a flood. The image quality both above and under water seems pretty good for a P&S
