A sad day, but I decided to try some new ideas out, they may have worked or they may not have, you be the judge.

Got drenched early on too, glad to see that the weather sealing on the D200 and 70-200 VR works

Brett, I think these are too cluttered for my taste, but I can see what you're trying to do. The Vee in #1 is good, but the foreground is a bit distracting, especially the big tree trunk in front of the car. #2 is good but again the pole just to the right of the main subject is a bit distracting. The official and lights are ok. #3 is great but the main focal point of the image is the driver's helmet/face and it's right down the bottom of the shot, with a lot of wasted space above the car. Would like to see him further up in the frame. #4 is like Where's Wally, except I'm hunting for some action in the form of a car.

I think the thing with most of these is that you're after car + landscape, but if you take the car out of the shot you're left with a very awkwardly composed landscape shot.

#7 is the pick of the lot IMHO, love this one!

I like Nos 1@6,the others I think are a bit cluttered.
It's good to try different ideas we can all benifit and see what works for us and what dosen't.

I agree with Jeff that they are a bit cluttered.

1. I like the concept, it gives a good sensation of speed to get foreground and background in panning shots, but agree the tree detracts from it. Is the full sized image sharp enough to crop to the car only? Great colours though!

3. Nice. I would be tempted to select the drivers face and helmet and add some brightness to them, maybe a little USM also. Would be a good image for the driver to purchase!

5. I like this concept. Maybe tighten the crop a little more, and cut away some of the armco.

6. I would crop this one tighter also, with the 'mt cotton ill climb' sign either the very top of the image, or JUST inside the crop. I also like this idea, I wonder what you could do with this with a tripod?

Nice to see some experimentation. I try it occasionally, but have more faith in my ability to get good shots being 'boring'.
