The lens which CD had on his D70 is the "worst glass" of Nikon, heavy, longish, no use, the only value of it the red VR letter and a small gold plate with the engraved letter Nikon 70-200VR.

Thanks for you generous offer. I think I may have the situation resolved as of tonite - but the number of repsonses for assistance that I have received is very encouraging. D70 users are great poeple - I am in good company.

Lots of lessons learned - even if it is pouring down check that zip before you run - there was only a small opening at the top of the bag yet the D70 found its way out

Wombat, European Camera Specialists (http://www.cameras.net.au) have the kit lens 18-70DX for $595 new. Granted, this is only a very minor savings on a grey 24-120 from a certain flying canine source in these forums.

Could you post some pics of your "totalled" kit lens? You've unfortunately killed yours at the meet, Timbo sample apparently suffered a crack in the front element for no known reasons, and yet I failed to kill mine despite my best efforts.

I suggested him yesterday with the option looking for a used 18-70 from few members, who's the owner of the 18-70 and have the 24-120VR same as asked him consideration into the 24-120VR instead of, but his reply was not heading that way and will go to the Sigma with "platinum band"

I have 2 offers in the pipline and either one will be settled today.

Some alternatives: Starting at the Museum and work around to Regatta Point? Maybe we could start a bit later - around 7 - 7.30pm where we think the light will be good.

Another reasonable starting spot might be Black Mountain Peninsula - we'd have to drive to next spot from there though I guess.

At some point I'd be keen to shoot under the same bridge as last time, from the other side so the bridge is on the rise and Parliament House comes up through the middle. PS: After second home alone experiment tonight, think son is now old enought to be home on his own for a few hours in the evening, so more peace and quiet than last time too!

My idea is to shoot accross the lake towards the War Memorial with the lights on at Anzac Parade.
Also the national Libray and some of the other buildings could be worthwhile taking photos of.
Who else is interested ?

It really depends on what the individual would like to photograph and what kind of light is preferred and also perhaps, how long to go for.

Hi, I'm keeping an eye on this thread to see when & where the next meet will be. I think the NMA would make a good meeting place as it's a pretty weird structure - maybe a good chance to get this "different perspective" shot!

I don't mind a fairly long walk around the lake and towards the bridge; if we know what's our destination we can also arrange to leave a car there (so we don't have to backtrack on foot).

Instead of going on a photo shoot we could go and have dinner somewhere (and have the night shoot [Canberra landmarks that are illuminated] or not afterwards)
What are your interests ?
Do we want to eat and talk instead of facing the horror of getteing drenched and loosing camera gear ?
Do we want to meet at my place and go through a sensor clean ?

What is it going to be ?

I like the idea of a session on cleaning the sensor. However, will go along with what comes along. Suppose we had better take advantage of the weather as "winter" is just down the line.

I have a new lens and am testing it out - will post some images when I select a few worthy ones. Most so far are looking a bit "soft".

Meet at my place on Saturday 5 March 10 am.
We'll discuss sensor cleaning, how to and how to check.
I'll do a sensor clean on my D70 and we'll check.

We could go on an excursion to Lanyon Homestead, just up the road and
have a coffee.
We could also head off to Tharwa and check out the old bridge.
We could head off to the Moonrock Cafe at Tibinbilla Tracking Station.
We could ...
We could discuss what we would like to do after the cleaning.

I like this suggestion. I am taking my kids to Skyfire later in the afternoon – earlyish to get a good spot.

I have never cleaned my sensor – only used mirror-lock up to inspect and use a blower to clean off any obvious dirt etc.

I have a number of shots of Tharwa and Lanyon, however, more the merry – they are great places for shooting. Would like to go to Tidbinbilla Tracking Station.

whats the best month to catch Autumn colors in ACT and where is the best vantage points for pics.

We haven't arranged anything yet - but it is a great time to take photos in the Canberra region. As a Canberra Forum "member" I will be keen to have a meet then. (Might start up a new thread on Fall Foilage.)

Around April/May is the best time (sometimes it can be early April if the wether turns early - keep an eye out. The older/inner suburbs provide the best foilage (Forest/Grifftih/Ainslie etc) and there are a number of good lookouts around town which provide a good perspective i.e Black Mt/Mr Ainslie/Redi Hill Lookout. All of these provide good lookouts over the older suburbs.

Closer to the time more infor will no boubt be posted with a suggested view.

If you are driving to Canberra, remeber around Bowral and Kangaroo Valley are great spots for Fall Foilage as well.
