PotW 4 December 2007

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

PotW 4 December 2007

Postby stubbsy on Mon Dec 03, 2007 10:38 pm

Yes, I'm a few hours early, but I won't be near the forum at all till late tuesday.

This week, as usual, there were a lot of fine images posted, but my choice this week is a shot that stuck with me once I'd seen it. This image is a fantastic example of how composition and the "technical" camera choices (like the aperture choice here to give a reasonably shallow DOF) can be critical to an image. To quote my own comments in the original thread "The selective DOF drew my eye to the faces of the foreground chefs and they are all so focussed and intense on the plates that the eye flows there naturally next and there it stops to linger over the image."

Without further ado - I present the image below (the original thread can be found HERE). Congratulations zafra52.

This is a great image that took a little while for me to appreciate, but I think works really well.

Top choice.
