More peacock madnessGood times! I had felt I should ease off a bit with my Featherdale shots, but Matt's and Pete's recent shooting spree at said place rekindled my confidence
These two were taken last month, right at the beginning of the peacock display season (which apparently is still in full swing at the moment). The first one benefits from the mild late afternoon light. Unfortunately the light was also not very intense so I had to open the lens all the way in order to stay within my hand-holding range: 180mm f/2.8 @ f/2.8, 1/125s Hypnotic plumage like that made me go for an abstract: 180mm f/2.8 @ f/5, 1/100s, flash BTW, I find Featherdale Park a really nice and pleasant little zoo. I always thought it would be a perfect venue for a photo meet. It is nicely laid out, with short walking distances, yet you can get lost in it for the whole day. It focuses mostly on native species, which isn't a bad thing at all... Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
The first shot is nice certainly highlights the colours of the peacock's tail, did you try for a landscape shot to get all the tail in..may have been bit difficult with a telephoto.
The colours and shapes in the second is brilliant
Both images are superb Steffen. #1 - up close and personal and #2 geometric colour at its best.

In some ways that first one is better than any I got light wise (I had to deal with very bright sun which made getting the shadows a challenge) As for a DSLR outing to Featherdale I believe Matt is planning that very thing for the new year Peter

Thanks for your comments, everyone! Jammy, I've got plenty of landscape shots of peacocks as well (including the obligatory full tail ones), but somehow I preferred this one.
That's excellent news. Great idea! Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
Steffen - that last shot of the white peacock from behind is great - love the symmetry of it.
