Dead SB800!??

Postby Laurie on Mon Dec 10, 2007 3:55 pm

I was using my SB800 on Thursday night, and it was getting extremely hot, mainly from the batteries.

After putting in the 3rd set of 5 batteries it would not fire, and when I hold down the 'shadow' button the bulb flashes almost invisibly.

Is my flash stuffed? I know for certain it isn't the batteries.
Is the bulb replaceable?

Help!

Cheers

Before jumping to conclusions, have you tried using the flash again?

Where you popping the flash in quick succession a lot, or at full power. Most info says it needs time to cool down, particularly if your near full power. Extended use with no breaks, can burn the flash out.

I think i've burnt it out then :( i was using it at 2+ and sometimes firing 3 times in a row.
I just put 4 brand new eneloop batteries and it didnt work.

I would assume a telephone call to Nikon Australia (or the repair mob in Bondi) would tell you whether it can be repaired or not (at your expense). I would have to assume it is repairable as they'd only need to exchange the tube, but who knows what they'll charge?

ATJ has it right - call the service department. Just did a quick Google search and that seems to the be recommended course of action.

I just went to the post labelled - Poroday - it had their details: http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php? ... ht=poroday :D

One thing to mention Laurie, if you are sending it by courier (I rang first) include your email as this is their normal method for letting peoiple know the repair is completed.

Na, some people spend more time on google than others. I use it all the time for a great number of things. Can be an interesting way to waste time...

Also it is Poraday too not Poroday :D (sorry couldn't resist, cheeky I know)...
