Getting 50+ photos printed/mounted

Postby losfp on Fri Dec 21, 2007 3:15 pm

Hi all, just after a bit of advice. After doing my work's christmas party last week, I'm being seen as the guy who's into photography and being asked to do a couple more company things. A danger for anyone who's ever inadvertantly advertised "hey! I can take a decent photo and am therefore perfect for taking other photos for you!!"

But hey, I don't really mind doing it if I'm going to be there anyway, or if I can do it in company time and it doesn't affect my ability to deliver my normal work. Gives me a chance to

So anyway, my brief for February (if the marketing manager can sweettalk my manager into borrowing me) is that there is a conference where a bunch of sales and marketing people get together at head office in sydney every year. They want to get a group photo done and printed for all the attendees, and also some individual photos (headshots) taken of the people there. Probably about 50-55 people or so.

Taking the photos is not a problem (get a chance to put the lessons learnt on strobist into use!!), I am just after some suggestions from people on how to get them printed.

The marketing manager showed me last year's photo and I think they are keen to do something similar.. Looks like basically a 5x7 print mounted in a white matte - you could go and frame that afterwards I suppose. Does anyone have any recommendations for places that would do this?

Timing would be quite tight. Shoot on the monday, have the file ready on Tueday, need to give the attendees the photos on Friday before they jet off to the various offices interstate and overseas. Therefore would need to ability to either upload the file or I suppose courier a disc across. Sydney preferred, just from the point of view of timing, but if anyone has had positive experiences with fast delivery from places interstate, I would be much obliged for any recommendations :)

Los
Time to by that Epson R800 and some 5 x 7 semigloss paper. This job will almost pay for it.

Not a paying job

I guess it is on company time and you are getting paid already.

However, you are using your own gear that you paid real after tax dollars for.

As Matt suggests, get work to buy you an R800 and the paper. That's the least they could do. To get a pro photog to come and do the work would cost them more then that anyways.

After the job is done, you can have safe keeping of the printer at your place

Cheers,

André

If you're not going to be reimbursed for costs I'd say the cheapest way to do them would be to matte them on bazzill cardstock from a scrapbooking store. At $1 or sometimes .80 for a 12x12 sheet, you can cut two mattes from it. It's lovely textured stuff.

Oh, work will pay for anything that needs paying of course.. So I'd rather get someone else to do the work rather than printing it out myself ;)
