tripod help

Postby jdear_89 on Thu Dec 20, 2007 9:00 pm

I was just wondering if i could get some advice on purchasing a new tripod. I was looking for a Manfrotto tripod that i could use for landscapes and a bit of night photography. I was looking at getting the 804 head on the pro legs. Has anyone had any experience with this tripod or had any problems with it? I'm looking at getting it for around $290 new.
Thanks James

Which legs are you looking at?

Are you planning to hike or trek with the tripod? Will you be travelling with the tripod? What sort of lenses/gears do you have?

These are usually considering factors of a tripod, its always comes to sacrifices in price, size and weight vs stability options.

For $290 I think you can get a 190 series leg with the 804 head or a 486 ball head. Its great stability vs price you can get...

James,

I have the Bogen 3021 legs and Bogen 3047 head. They are the US equivalent of Manfrotto 055CL legs and 029 head (which I think has been superseded by the 229). It looks quite similar to the 804.

I've had this tripod since 1991 and it has been rock solid and given me no problems at all.
