Joining the 70-200VR Club
Well I've just contacted Birddy and placed an order through for the 70-200VR, TC1.7 and a UV Filter. Will be going to the bank tomorrow to wire through the money as my internet account is limited to $500

welcome to the club. You will get a shock when you pickup the box, it is hughe ! You will get another shock when you have the actual lens in your hands. Get a proper neck strap. Last not least, enjoy. Cheers CD

Hey Kipper congrats mate with parting with some $$$ and welcome to the VR club, i dont have that lens but have the 80-400VR. Wonder if the 70-200 is longer it looks longer, but i am sure you will enjoy it.

The TC17 is only designed to work with AFS lenses, and only certain ones are recommended (you'll bang the rear element of the lens with the tc for certain lenses - which is not good)
You'll lose 1.5 stops with the TC17.
Kipper congrates, but I hope you're not intending to cripple the optical quality of the 70-200 with a UV filter permanently stuck to the front of it! The lens already has a reputating for flaring under adverse conditions (with 20+ elements construction), adding another two air to glass surfaces may severely hinder its performance! Use the lens hood.
Also, don't try to fit the TC on the 50mm, you'll ruin both.
Of course I'd have looked into that before connecting as I know the rear glass on the 50mm protrudes out. I've already scratched it a little bit when mounting to the D70 in a hurry.
It's funny Onyx, I don't use my UV filters much anymore but it's nice always to have one for the lenses you have. After reading an article by some photographer, I decided to just use the hood.

Good move. You won't regret it. These are as scarce as hens teeth at the moment (do hen's have teeth?). Anyway - I've just got mine with a 1.7 TC and it's an awesome combo. Unfortunately I've had little time to play with it since I got it last Saturday, but this weekend I plan to put it through its paces during the Wetlands field trip. Peter

I have this combo and find it awesome. Have an assignment to shoot this Thursday night and the lens I will be using for this is the 70-200. This lens is so versatile. I still cannot decide if I like the 70-200 or the 12-24 the best. Cheers, Darryl. my 70-200 was handed over today... just in time for the 2 weeks holidays i have. kids will be at friends houses... wife will be at work... i'll be wandering the streets with this new found love...

The 70-200VR is just his temp. solution! Mark will have new acquisition of his 200-400VR/ 400 or 600 soon.

dont flick the uv too quick it will protect your expensive glass and yes the uv will work as well. i use my 70-200 with uv and a circular polariser at the same time . safety in numbers i call it
shoot it real.
