Hot mirror filter and IR contamination

Came across this link on a discussion about how IR contamination can effect the colours in normal photography and using hot mirror filters can help obtain truer colours.

Apparently, since the sensors still quite sensitive to the IR spectrum, the colours of objects that reflect a lot of IR (certain fabrics etc) can be affected.

Darn, after reading this, it's making me want to go out and get a B+W hot mirror filter. When will the buying stop !

Isn't it amazing how we go about happily taking photos not knowing any better, then someone posts something like that in Dpreview and it makes us all think again. I bet if we go back and look at our photos we will spot this IR shortcummings.
No, not this time, I'm going to ignore it and keep PP he way I've always done, especially at US$175 for a filter.

Gooseberry, interesting but I think I will file this one with the noise issue on firmware 1.03 Resist the hot mirror filter, reminds me of the pre brushing mouthwash, which is so different to the post brushing mouthwash. I think these guys have people loafing around a room thinking of new bits of the body to deodorise or in our case new problems with our lenses, sensors, etc which I didn't know I had.

pps we both live in sunny climates, do we put the hot mirror filter over or under the cicular polarising filter, etc?
