It looks to me to be some sort of coral or something that lives in/on coral. The first thing that struck me though was that it looked like it was a photo taken of an organism under a microscope. D300 18-200mm VR

It a corallimorph up close. They're closely related to anemones. Thanks for the comments too. Here's the whole thing.
