Monitor??

He who dies with the most toys wins - right, but do I really need a new toy?? What does that have to do with it anyhow?.

I am thinking of getting a larger monitor (bigger is better - so they say) - currently have a 19" Diamond LCD which doesn't have any problems - but hey? So how big is big enough?

Bearing in mind that I do not use my PC for games (so refresh rate is not as important) - If I were to get a 24" with 1920 x 1200 resolution would this give me a better display on my photos than something with say 1366 x 768 resolution? Would I really see a difference when viewing and editing? When do we really reach the best resolution? How big is big enough on the PC desk?

Another question I have been considering is whether to use an LCD TV as the monitor for the PC (maybe a 26" lcd) and then when the girls are watching their stuff I would be able to watch sport in with the PC. Is this a bad option? Hey, all the sales reps would gladly try to talk me into getting one!

Which way should I go? Should I stick with what I've got?

LCD TV's typically arent high res and not great as PC monitors - especially if you want use them for image editing. I would suggest get the monitor you need then a PCI/e Tuner card. I have one with a Dell 2007WFP and its great. I use it mainly for sport. You can also use it as a HTPC which is pretty cool as well - set it up to record anything you are interested in in High Definition - superb.

I think that the best way to handle it is to just give me the $$$$$$, and I'll take over the problem for you.

Maybe even translate it into solving one of my own problems.

a bigger screen will mean you can fit more on your screen so when editing photos, you should be able to see more details when viewing the image at full screen. This may help you in doing some editing. An important aspect of using a screen for photo editing is that it renders the colours correctly. Getting your screen calibrated is very important to make sure that what you see is what you get.

If you want to spend money, keep some for a calibration device like the Spyder or EyeOne.

As deadgoose says, if you want to watch TV on your PC, get a tuner card.

I recently purchased a SONY Trintron 19" CRT on Ebay for $35.00 It is in mint condition and the image quality is supurb. It originally cost $1600! There are many of these on Ebay at any one time and if you have the desk space then I would recommed one over any LCD screen for photo editing.

Thanks Matt. I hear that CRTs are still being sort after in certain commercial applications too.

However I think I would prefer to save the space.
