Postby BBJ on Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:40 pm

Hi All,
Well there has beens lots of talk about monitors as i had a nice AOC crt monitor to do pp on has died and well not a lot of crt's around and in the market for a lcd but so many to choose from but i want something that will do the job so what do you have and if any problems.

22" Samsung 226BW (Black) LCD Monitor i have seen where i get some of my gear from in Adelaide but unsure if this is the way to go also i know of Dell, Veiwsonic anygood? but one around 22 to 24" would do the job.

Thanks

As far as I remember, the 2407 is good by Dell. The current Viewsonics seem to pale in comparison to models that seriously rocked and had good panels like the VX2025wm (which I'm currently using) and while Samsung say their panels are a proper 8-bit, half of the company seems divided when you call uip and ask which makes me believe otherwise.

I'd stick to the Dell if I could unless you're looking in Eizo territory though some of the high end HP's I saw a couple of months ago at an HP dinner looked pretty good too (I need to test them though).

I have two Samsung 226BW screens, they are very nice. Very bright by default, had to turn the brightness down and calibrate properly.
I can't fault them. Plus Samsung gives full 3 year zero dead pixel warranty on all monitors 19 inch and over.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this so please be gentle. :)

I have a Dell 2407 which is nice, but my boss, who suggested this forum, has a couple of nice Eizos in a controlled environment which makes my Dell look horrible even after calibration. One of these days I would like to get the Dell into that environment to see how it shapes up.

An Eizo might be on the wish list, but it comes somewhere after a D3 and 3 or 4 nice lenses.

Regards

I have a 21.3' Eizo Flexscan S2100 which rocks! (I only need a second one now :D)

I had a cheap viewsonic sitting next to it and you could tell there was a HUGE difference between them, particularly when the screen was black - the viewsonic had light burning in around the sides of the screen and the Eizo was just black!

well worth an Eizo if you are doing photography fulltime - kicks Apple's.

Just looking at a site Leigh gave me to look at and seems there are a lot of panels out there that are Samsung panels including Dell,Sony, Acer, Eizo, BenQ even Veiwsonic. Didn't know that but yeh what lcd uyou might have may be a samsung panel.

Dell 24" widescreen 2407 for me too - great size and price. I even talked the boss into buying me one for work so I spend a lot of time looking at these and have to say my initial positive feeling of the quality of these hasn't changed after nearly a year of use. Dell regularly have the price on these reduced. As I write they are on sale for $799 which IMHO is a bargain price ($250 off their "normal" price).

We got a bunch of Samsung 204Ts 20" monitors cheap a while ago at work (8 or 10 of them) and at least half have developed a fault. They symptom is that they won't come out of power-saving mode, sometimes even after a prolonged power-down (ie, unplug them and leave them for a week). The Samsung warranty is a joke, it takes weeks for the repair and we've had one (of three repairs) sent back still disassembled, just thrown in the box). I also bought one of those but luckily it has not developed the fault (yet).

So I suggest not dealing with Samsung if you have the choice.

As mentioned by BBJ a lot of panels on the market are supplied by Samsung (Sony being one). I have a Samsung LA40M81BDX HD TV and the quality is A1 :)

We've had this discussion before on the forum, actually, between TN and VA panels. While the Dell 2407 uses a Samsung PVA panel which is good, a lot of the Samsung LCD's use TN panels which just aren't for photography / colour-heavy work. Just because the Dell and other LCD's use a Samsung panel, doesn't mean Samsung's own monitors will all the time.
