Re: Nikon D60 specsCool. Do we know when these may be released or just rumour mill at the moment?

Re: Nikon D60 specsShane,
I'm not seeing any evidence on the referenced page that suggests this could be the D60. Deadgoose: The D60 has been rumoured since the start of the year. There may be some announcements over the next couple of weeks as PMA is about to start. g.

Re: Nikon D60 specsthese specs [and the pentax ones] were found by a guy who was changing numbers on the above site to see what was hidden on the website.
it was in dutch or something so i added the bit at the end to change it to english. all just a rumour but the specs could be waiting for approval to be allowed to get published at PMA time. guess we just have to wait and see Shane

Re: Nikon D60 specsThanks gary. Sounds like I should hold fire on any purchase and see if anything that I should consider is announced.

Re: Nikon D60 specs
When are you thinking of buying, and what are you looking at now? For the moment the D60 is vapourware, and you could perhaps already be shooting. I'm not one to make a purchase decision based upon an as yet unannounced product. Cheerz. g.

Re: Nikon D60 specsGary
I am looking to buy as soon in the next few weeks. If the D60 was announced and met my requirements I would probably get a cheap D70 and wait for availability. I had pretty much decided on a new D80 but have been tossing up whether to maybe pick up a second hand D200 or even a really cheap D70 and see how it goes. To be honest I keep coming back to a new D80. From the investigation I have done it will meet my needs and the price is around my budget. I was planning on buying from Poon when/if I can access the pricelist. Thanks George D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: Nikon D60 specsGeorge,
Then there's your decision, all wrapped up in a nice pretty bow. What potential features might a D60 have that might cause you to alter your current PoV? Consider too that you have already eliminated a D200 - even a pre-loved one. That adds strength, I think, to my question about what might make you change your current line of thought? If you are not really favouring a D200, nor either of the D40 models, what might a D60 bring to the table that the D80 wouldn;t have?
That can be arranged pretty quickly, I believe. g.

Re: Nikon D60 specsGary, the only thing that may male me wait would be weatherproofing.
Thanks for your post. Very helpful. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: Nikon D60 specsThe D60 would not be weatherproofed...
They wouldn't cut the D80's lunch. It's obviously not weatherproofed, and it is more up-spec than the D40/D50/D70. Weatherproofing is typically reserved for the semi-pro to pro offerings. The serious amature (D70, D80) has never really got this, so I wouldn't expect one of the base models (D40/D50/D60) to. It would confuse purchase decisions and Nikon wouldn't be maximising their revenue. body: nikon d200, d70s, f4s, f601.

Re: Nikon D60 specs
Absolutely correct.
While your logic is certainly sound, Nikon have, in the past, actually gone against this line of thought. Consider that the D70 was, ostensibly, a camera that was down market from the D100 when it was released. It was cheaper, its name signified it was down market, and it was clearly targeting a different market segment, with the absence of waterproofing, no battery grip, smaller finder, etc. Yet in many ways the camera represented a significant upgrade: better IQ, better feature set in many ways, and generally regarded as better value than the D100. Similarly the D80 borrowed many features from the D200, and while not considered in the same light as the D70-D100 comparison, the feature set was surprisingly strong. Then you have the D40x ... The D60? Who's for a slightly lobotomised D300 ? g.

Re: Nikon D60 specsYep.
I am tempted to suggest that the D70 / D100 clash may have been somewhat due to the fact that these cameras were released reasonably early in the piece for DSLRs. The D70, for my memory, was the first enthusiast DSLR. But thats all speculation, and off topic speculation at that. body: nikon d200, d70s, f4s, f601.

Re: Nikon D60 specs
I'd be inclined to hang that gong on the Canon 300D. Look at Nikon's response: within a couple of months of the Canon's release, Nikon had to announce the D70, but it was a full three months still before we had any real idea of what the D70 was capable of. Perhaps that's a part of the reason why the D70 wasn't as lobotomised (compared with the D100) as the 300D was (compared with the 10D). Nikon's announcement was more of a "Oh shit. We've just turned up at the bus stop, only to find that the bus left yesterday morning" kind of internal email that led to a "Hey! wait for us! Don;t buy that Canon! We make consumer DSLRs too!" public announcement, such was the impact, and importance in the marketplace, of the 300D. {quote]But thats all speculation, and off topic speculation at that.[/quote] I thought it was my job to make that assessment. g.

Re: Nikon D60 specs
Sorry I meant to say Nikon enthusiast DSLR. You are right about the Canon.
haha! I thought I should save you some time and make the assertion myself. body: nikon d200, d70s, f4s, f601.
