Sorry admins, but this is 1280 wide. I would have liked to have gone more but I didn't want to cause too many problems. Was a handheld pano, taken landscape not portrait mode. It was only when I took the pan of Fareham Creek later that morning that I thought I should be taking the shots in portrait. Furthering the point about plenty of photos to take in Europe. Basically I walked out the front door of where I was staying (friends house) with D70 in hand and shot, rotated, shot etc. They live just up the road from Portchester castle. Unfortunately due to laziness I didn't get any shots of that! To the right of the picture you can see The Spinaker Tower that has been built at Gunwharf Quay. It was meant to be completed by 2000 for the Millenium but it looks like it will be completed this year. That's if the French concrete doesn't have too much lime content and corrodes all the steel structure!!

Early morning held hand pano of Port Solent
Hmm indeed. It is a very 'industrial' looking pano. Very dark, gloomy and foreboding. Quite appropriate colours for the subject i feel. A bit bent on one end though. Thanks for sharing. Steve.

Never really noticed the bend until you mentioned it. The downside of handholding it I guess. You can see now why I was eager to buy a tripod over there!
Guess I'll just have to go back with gitzo in hand and take it again.

Sorry kipper, but there is nothing in this photo to command a viewer's attention.
The fact that it is a pano and takes some skill to assemble probably wouldn't cross the mind of Joe Average, ao you need something to make him look. I don't think the light/clouds thing is enough. I'm sure you are going to produce much better panos in the future. Sorry to be brutal.

I saw this image when you first posted and it left me completely unexcited. I held off posting because I was hoping the problem was with my perceptions of the image, but having read the other posts since I've decided to come back and post some thoughts. While there may be technical merit to the image, I find it too dull in both appearance and content to appeal to me. There's nothing in the image that grabs me on first glance and pulls me in to a closer examination and I think that is the essence of a good image. I know this may sound a little harsh, but I'm offering this in a constructive way. I think your (well justified) pleasure in the technical achievement may have blinded you a little to the other qualities of the image. Like others have said already, this is a good start, but I'm confident you can do much better than this. I look forward to seeing many more panos from you as you consolidate and refine your skills. Hmmm......Well I've taken the comments in and had a look at the image. I agree there isn't a lot to the shot. Maybe if I'd also captured Portchester castle in the foreground (would of meant going up the road) it might of made a better shot. It was suppose to be just a pano of Portsmouth and Gosport over looking Port Solent. Which I think it's captured quite well. Trust me if you've ever seen these two towns up close you wouldn't really think much of them. I know there is nothing that really captures the viewers attention, the only interesting part of the horizon is the Spinaker Tower. The most part that I liked about this photo was the clouds and the sun. Going from a bright orange to a soft apricot color, with a few greys and blues mixed in. I found it quite a moody shot to me.

Maybe my niceness pills hadn't taken effect fully when I posted earlier  I agree with you about the clouds & sun, it's the rest that lets that part of the image down. Of course having never been there I may be missing the quality of the image as a representation of what these places look like.Peter

One other Q. How many shots do you htink is ideal for a pano. I did one of our local dam that was about 9or 10 shots it turn out rediculous. I t looked ok but want happy. MATT
