RRS purchase and share shipping? - still open

Postby Glen on Sun Dec 09, 2007 5:20 pm

At some stage in the near future I will be ordering a L bracket for a D300 from Really Right Stuff (BD300-L cost $140). The freight for one is US$32.34 and for two is US$33.88 and three is $35.42! Talk about incremental cost!

With the number of D300 probably about to be ordered, or other RRS products, I thought there may be others who would like to share postage? Not concerned about timing (I am going away for almost a month on the 24th) but wanted to post it so it was known.

Glen,

Count me in, please.....ATM it appears that demand has outstripped their manufacturing capacity, but this is not unusual at RRS
However, I'm in no great rush

Paul and Joe, with the A$1k limit (inc shipping) we probably have a quorum between the three of us. Joe, I didn't realise the L brackets were out of stock. I am ready to order anytime, from right now. If I ordered now I wouldn't be here when it arrived, but if one of you wanted to handle ordering now I would be in or I am happy to order when I get back, which sounds like it may suit better, especially with Christmas so soon.

If this is still open, I would be interested in a Macro Head (B150-B) $295 cited on their web site

Hi Greg, absolutely still open, though it would be appropriate to give Paul first refusal as I think 3 orders will be the limit. The limit coming in is A$1k or about US$850 including shipping. Joe and mine are US $280. I PMed Paul yesterday so lets give him till Monday to respond either way (he may be away on holidays or now is not right for him) and then we can sort this order out.

Greg,

If we have missed the boat with the others, I wouldn't mind getting some stuff. I'd be interested in a ball head and L plate although there are so many options with QR clamps, I'm not sure which ones to get.

Can anyone recommend which is the best QR clamp to go with a BH-55 and D300 L-plate?

Andrew,

I have the Pro option (screw clamp) on my BH55, have also seen the QR (quick release) option which works well too. I have heard that the QR option can sometimes have problems with plates which aren't RRS, so I went PRO as I had a few such plates.

Glen,

Thanks. The "Pro" option is cheaper, too. ;)

Looks like I have US$700 worth of stuff to buy so if I was to share postage it would have to be something around $100.

I'm still keen to go ahead with this order with the parts mentioned in my previous post.

Hi Joe, Paul, Greg and Andrew,

I have just tried every permutation I could think of these orders to see if I could fit them into 2 orders. Unfortunately Andrew your order is so large no one has a small enough order to team with it (in fact $100 at RRS will probably only get you one of the free stubby holders you get with a BH55!). That taken as a fact we are down to those who are left, taken in the order interest was shown we are full at Glen, Joe and Paul. I suggest we leave this thread open as hopefully someone will come to team with Greg or someone will want a small widget to squeeze into Andrew's.

Hope everyone is happy with this solution, Joe and Paul I will place the order shortly.

Hi Joe and Paul,

Order placed and details PMed to you. Now the waiting game.

To others who might like to order I would suggest posting here for Greg or Andrew to respond to.

Edit: shipping and tracking details arrived Saturday morning :)

Is anyone else is looking to order from RRS in the next couple of months? I'd be interested to share postage; I'll be ordering an L-plate for either the D200 or D300.

I'm after a cold shoe (or two) - probably the cheapest items you can get from RRS!

I'll be in it if an order gets off the ground.

Cheers

Sounds good. I need to get my insurance claim and replacement sorted out first, so it's likely to be a month or so, possibly longer, before I'm ready to order, but I'll post back here when I am sorted. Happy to be the 'organiser', too.

Naturally, if you need to order sooner than that, please go ahead, and I'll catch the next group. :)

I want to move on my RRS purchase in the next week or so. I have about $500 of purchases in mind, I am open to sharing postage with any one who wants to come in for another $400 or so.

I'm going to have to hold off for a while yet as I've yet to get my replacement body and I don't want to put the cart before the horse, so to speak.

I'll get in on the next one. :)

The idea is to get the shipment to come in just under PP1,000, thus maximising items/overhead.
