POTW 5 Feb 2008This week's Picture Of The Week is something of an oddity in many ways - it's not a pretty image, nor is it technically brilliant or "better" than many other images posted this week, yet I've chosen it because it embodies the whole POTW concept of "an image that, for whatever reason, catches (the moderator's) eye".
As I said in my comments in the original post, the detailed explanations that go with Rel's images enrich our understanding of the amazing natural world around us - we don't just feel her love and passion for her subjects, we get some education to go with it as well. So congratulations on POTW and thanks Rel for sharing this bizzare little snapshot of emerging life with the rest of us. The original thread can be found HERE. Do yourself a favour and go there to learn more about this image. Peter

Re: POTW 5 Feb 2008Peter,
This is the image that I too would chosen, were it my turn. Its not, and thus I couldn't, but I am glad that this image grabbed you in the way that it grabbed me. It's a wonderful image of life. it simply doesn't get better, nor more important, than that. Great selection, and a wonderful image, Rel. Thank you for posting this, and for helping all of us to better appreciate this beautiful world within which we live. g.

Re: POTW 5 Feb 2008Amazing - very chaos theory, in a sense (go deeper and see the parasites living on the skin, go deeper than that...)
Well chosen and worthy POTW.
Re: POTW 5 Feb 2008Amazing shot which I missed the first time around. Congrats Rel, great choice Peter...you must be 'jumping' for joy now Rel

Gary, and everyone who has commented on this shot - thank you :) I'm glad I'm able to bring something to the forum - I'm not the best photographer, and I know jack sh*t, but I have a ball crawling around in the mud finding frogs with Damo, and forcing you guys to learn the scientific names ;) I only jhust saw the post - just got home from crawling around in the mud again getting some more photos LOL God I love rain ;) Again - thank you - the forum is like family, and having positive feedback from family is the best kind :) Hugs Rel
Re: POTW 5 Feb 2008Congratulations, I somehow I knew this one had to be a winner! I particularly like how you drew where the mouth, eyes and nose are for our benefit. :)

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your kind words !! Now, surely you should all be out taking photos of frogs by now ??? If I can do it, everyone can :) Just remember, the trick for the taddies is a small aquarium with some 'natural' backdrop - and as soon as you are finished, put them back gently where they came from. If you keeping for a couple of days though, chuck a lettuce in the freezer - pull off a leaf and put it in the tank for them to feed on - the freezing makes the cells start to break down, and then you don't have to boil it :)
Re: POTW 5 Feb 2008I agree, not technically or artistically perfect image. But it shows how amazing is life on Earth, simply bloody amazing.
