Fujifilm S5Just looking at reviews on this camera and it looks like a real performer:
http://www.thinkcamera.com/news/article ... 7412517630 In the dpreview one the image samples look a little soft, however I can't find another review to back this up. I'm looking at either this or the d200 for weddings... and I think Im leaning towards the S5 because of the incredible dynamic range as evidenced in the above link, at the top of the review. Anyone have one or used one? Cheers, Owen.
The S5 is the camera for wedding and portrait photographers who is not concerned about 5 fps on the D200.
And from what all I've seen on the net and around here, it is the real deal for high ISO performance Nikon system. If you are not concerned about frame speed, this is what you'll love I'm thinking to get one, too...
Go Yi-P buy buy buy... lol If I were a Nikon user I'd go for it ---
Equipment: camera body, wide lens, standard lens, telephoto lens, flash Wish list: skill
If I have a spare $2.5k laying around, I definitely would... right now, I gotta hold my breathe
Thanks guys. I had a search for padey's images last night, a lot are not displaying though. Will have a search for woody's now, thanks Glen!
Maybe try Padey's web site and run iexif over the images to work out what is S5? http://www.catoandpade.com.au/
Search sucks...
Maybe go off his profile: http://dslrusers.com/search.php?search_author=padey Here's a good example of his stuff: http://dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?p=29 ... ht=#296163
I got one too!!!
Hey Man, post some photos I bet the 28-70 2.8 and the S5 work nicely together.
Re: Fujifilm S5I use one for my job, you won't be disappointed I promise.
I just wish I had the opportunity to take it home and play...
Re: Fujifilm S5i think bindi acquired one of these just recently...and posted some great shots
Re: Fujifilm S5
She definitely did, and did post them too I know that Padey posted some fantastic ones as well...

Re: Fujifilm S5Should see one of these example prints given to us by Fuji, it's a portrait printed at about A2, using highest quality jpeg files and you really can't see much fault in the image.
The only factor with the S5 is the sharpening really. Blog: http://grevgrev.blogspot.com

Re: Fujifilm S5
I have one.. and honestly I would highly recommend it... originally I bought it as a 'muck around' camera but its fast starting to get more use than the Canon... the only reason I am not using it for my weddings at the moment is because I only have the one lens with it (18 - 200VR) and no seperate flash.... but I plan to rectify that shortly... Its a pity you dont live closer cause you could have tried mine out for a few days... but I've found it more than easy to use and very rarely do I delete a shot taken with it... you won't be dispointed if you buy it... The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Re: Fujifilm S5
May I suggest the 85 f/1.4? Then the 70-200 f/2.8VR Then you'll be selling the Canon gear. g.

Re: Fujifilm S5
Lol... no the Canons stay and thats final... *nods*... but if I already have the 18 - 20 VR... whats the point in getting the 70 - 200 VR... is the image quality that much better cause I'm already impressed with the 18 - 200... The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...
Re: Fujifilm S5
Yes. Despite the undoubted optical quality of the 18-200. And it's optically so much faster too, and much better construction. The comparison is one of consumer grade as against pro grade. g.

Re:
Hi Owen, Sorry, I missed this thread until now. Yep, I have an S5 and love it for studio work (I still think no camera can be beaten on the studio!!! (but I am sure someone will!!!)). I shot a lot of kids on location and to be honest I found it a bit slow for that (I bought a D300 for the location stuff). I have used it for one wedding and no probs. If you are ever up in Sydney give me a shout, happy to meet up so you can have a play and also compare to the D300. Andrew

Re: Fujifilm S5Hi,
If anyone is interested in this camera...they have it at Ted's in Brisbane on Adelaide St for $1300 body only or $1500 with either tamrom 18-200 or 28-75 f2.8 My D70 is starting to fade....dropped one too many times I think! only the center focusing point works now (unless I have it on closest focusing which I never use), and quite often the camera give me a CHR or FOR error corrupting images on the CF!! So I am considering the S5...but not sure if D300 is better albeit at a significantly higher cost to this. I know the pros and cons but cannot decide...I have a 16mth old son and he is starting to run around quite a bit....so probably want the speed of D300. Anyway more thinking to do. cheers Joe Joe

Re: Fujifilm S5I am using both the D300 and the S5 Pro atm, I hope my little sister wont steal the S5 back too soon. I have to say that it is not much slower to focus and fire, it is just the FPS that is slower than on any other Nikon. I have been blown away by the dynamic range, auto wb and the colour reproduction that this camera. At this price if I didnt have the D300 I would take this and not look back, I dont really use the FPS of the D300 anyway, and for portrait work the S5 kicks arse!!
The only downside is that the menu system will take a little getting used to when switching over from a Nikon. Also just to remind you that the EN-EL3e will not power this camera, it needs a NP-150 (identical but different), even in the MB-D200 grip. For those who are 'features' (gimmick) orientated, it has a 30sec LiveView for MF. I got a kick out of that when we first got it, but it will be as useless as the LiveView on my D300. Cameron
