I am considering getting "noise ninja" but it looks like it costs about $45US- home bundle for use within PS.

I have seen it on some images (Bindii's in particular) and like the smoothness.

I downloaded a free version but it produced a grid so thereby making it unusable....Is there another comparable free software or is the Noise ninja worth the $50??

How much did your camera cost you? Fifty dollars is a very small price to pay if it helps you to produce better images.

I use it, I like it. Especially as it plugs straight into Bibble Pro.

Its worth every cent if you ask me... but if you are going to buy it do yourself a favour and get the pro version... at around $90 (if memory serves me correctly) its well worth the extra $'s..

I vote Noise Ninja although you could buy a D3 for $7k and you won't need to use it anywhere near as often

Small softwares that saves you TIME are worth spendin' on.

Eg Breezebrowser and Downloader Pro. Worth the USD90 I paid for

What's the general opinion for Noise ninja users. Are you better off with the standalone version or is the Photoshop plugin just as good?

If you have PS, then you might as well go with the plugin. If you don't have an app that can use the plugin, then the standalone app is what you want.

I find I use Noise Ninja very rarely. Normally, I would prefer some noise to the plasticised look the images gain once you run them through noise ninja. It works pretty well though if you use it very moderately on images that have slight noise. If the image is really bad, I do not think NN is very helpful.

I'm learning to 'love the noise' these days. It's usually hard to see on images up to about half size. If I do use it, then I only use it on backgrounds and not on subjects. And now that Aperture has selective sharpening tools, I use it even less.

I have licensed copies of pretty much every noise reduction plug-in currently available and I prefer Imagenomic Noiseware above the others – it seems to get the last bits of noise and dead pixels that others don't. I checked my site stats and it receives more hits and searches than NoiseNinja, etc. (#3 searchphrase this month so far).

I bought NN for use with Bibble Pro. It worked well, though it didn't use it as much for noise removal as for sharpening. It did a much better job at that than Bibble's own sharpening tools.

I'm looking forward to the NN plug-in for Aperture, who knows, my license may cover that, too.

hey, i figure i'd post a comparison test between programs, so here's pehpsi's NR'd photo using noise ninja:


and here's the photo through Neat Image


the biggest difference i can see is the contrast and sharpness difference, but i put that down to some PP being done on pehpsi's NR'd image. i used the 'original' photo form pehpsi's post, and ran neatimage on default settings. in my opinion the results are comparable, but without the same PP being done to my image, this isn't enough to draw any conclusions from.

anyone out thee care to run the original through noise ninja on default settings and post the results?

Hi digitor, sorry for the delay in replying--I hadn't received email notification of your post.

The "impartial" description was inspired by a post from someone about my site on a photography forum. They noted that I list all sorts of software, from freeware to the most expensive, from developers large and small, on equal terms (ie, each gets its own dedicated page with screenshots and examples).

The free companion ezine is more customized with my own comments about each product. The Plugs 'N Pixels website uses copy from each developer's own website for reasons of practicality. Based on the number of HTML pages on my site, it seems I list over 400 individual products (with more added regularly), far too many for which to write custom copy. To do so would be ideal, I agree, but the time investment required is not fully justified for a free-access site such as this.

I'll try to work in that direction, but in the meantime, consider the site as a way to get consistently-presented info on each of these products in one place, without having to visit the websites of over 170 developers whose materials are represented here. Plus any developer who offers discounts is noted (discounts not available on their own sites, of course).
