Best place to buy CF Cards?

Best place to buy CF Cards?

Postby bochup on Thu Feb 17, 2005 2:41 pm

Hi guys,

Don't know if this is the right forum to ask this.

I'm looking for a CF card for a new D70 camera. My CF card choices have been narrowed down to the following:
* Transcend 45x 1Gb CF Card
* Sandisk Ultra II 1Gb CF Card

Where is the best place to buy these CF Cards?

Cheers!

Hi Bochup,
I 'll answer your question with another question.
Are you planning on going to one of our Saturdays mini meets any time soon?

Of course birddog prices are for members with 30 posts etc. I also believe we're supposed to email d70gear rather than PM birddog

bochup. A good way to get on the way to 30 posts might be to post some of your images for us to critique (we're pretty kind)

I've read somewhere on these forums that the Transcend ones have the fastest access times..even over the Sandisk. Is the Lexar better?

phillipb: Where is the next meet? I've checked the calendar and don't think I could make it out to Newcastle for the next meet.

If it's in Sydney and I have my D70 by then, then will definitely try to make it.

stubbsy: when I get home tonight I'll try to dig around for some nice photos. I know you guys have been great but I would like to put my best foot forward to start with hehe.

I work quite late though so might be quite late tonight.

There's usually a meeting at Birddog's in Belmore every Saturday morning, except this Saturday due to the Newcaste Meet. PM Birddog for his address.

You're right sort of. While some cards have faster access times than others this is only of theoretic value In practicey any card that is 45x or better gives max throughput on the d70. Getting say a Lexar 80x will make no difference on the D70

Bochup & Greg, I believe Lexar has the fastest card this week, but that is now not the limiting factor as a year or two ago. I think Astone, Transcend, Sandisk Ultra 11 or better, or Lexar cards in the 40X (or is it 45X) exceed the write speed of the D70.

For the D70 ...

May I respectfully suggest coming to one of our Saturday meets. You can get a chance to play with all manner of toys, and even test some of the various cards in your camera, with your lenses, at your liesure.

Then you'll be able to decide that an Astone 1GB card is perfectly suited to the camera, only costs a little over $100, and you'll be as happy as a D70 user without a VR lens can be.

And yes, the meetings are held just around the corner from your place. Can you say "Belmore" ??

Don't have a D70 at the moment.

Was just trying to figure out the best deals you guys might know of and how much outlay I'll need to join the D70 owner's club, camera + all the required acc.

So does everyone here buy their CF cards off birddog114?

I would try to do the same except I'm not a member
