Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I highly recommend the Bamboo for amateurs... works with Windows VISTA too... and with WORD 2007 so you can microsoft INK it all you want..
For the pros, probably need a Intuos or higher end..
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I've got an old one here i used to use quite a bit... but they stopped supporting in in XP onwards and OSX .... so one day i'll get a newer one.
great little tools they are for graphics work
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet? That reminds me, I promised to give this to my designer....
I basically never use it at all. I may use a top shelf one though if I had it. Dan The Batch Automator
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I've tried em and they don't do it for me. A mouse is more convenient because I can hold my beer in the other hand.

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I've got a Wacom Cintiq 21UX. Absolutely love it. I just don't use it as much as I'd like to. If you've got a spare 4k I highly recommend it

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I have a Wacom Intuos Student edition. I find the software buggy. Sometimes it loads sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tells me to reinstall the software. It often loses the settings I have made for it. It always disables the firewall while it loads. I find this disturbing.
The driver loads even if the tablet is not connected. There is no clear uninstall path. etc etc. That said, for some things it just can't be beat. Greg

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I have a wacom Intuos 3 and it is so good to use, much more accurate than a mouse once you take the time to get confident with it.

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?rather than start a new thread, I thought I would hijack an old one and enquire as to which graphics tablet do people recommend?
I am looking to get one to get back into more creative photo manipulation and I lost the pen on my old tablet...making it rather useless (still have the mouse for it though haha...useless!). The thing is the original tablet I got was a dodgy no brand one that did the job ($70 or something a few years back) and I just don't see me needing the wacom products and their prices (the pen can be laggy at times too which is annnnnnooooying!). I've used wacom and they are nice but not really super special. I never had any problems with the noname one so has anyone used any non-wacom tablets they can recommend? I saw a manhattan brand, genius, and some other stuff the specs which look not too bad. Otherwise i'm leaning towards the bamboo fun 6x9 which is relatively cheap (for a wacom).
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I own one, though I gave it to my designer at work and she had it in her draw until recently when there was a particularly bad spell of RSI. They are good, though I always use a dual monitor setup, and this makes the horizontal vs vertical ratio out of proportion due to the shape of the whole screen output. The expensive ones are way better because they have tilt as well as pressure.

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I had the wacom intuos 3 9x12 when I was doing illustrations with Corel Painter IX. Absolutely loved it. Regarding photography, I mostly used it for dodging and burning since the tilt/pressure sensitivity made it a lot easier. Ended up selling it since the mouse was capable of the dodging and burning and didn't take so much real estate on my desk
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I have a couple. Using the wacom bamboo at the moment. It's cheap but decent.

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?if you're starting off, go for the bamboo which is the entry level now I believe? If you're wanting to go for gold, then go with the Intuos range as that will last you a lot longer. Having said that though, I've had my Graphire for about 6 years now and that's all I use for PP now. It will take some getting used to but once you do, it's a breeze!
Forget about the programs that comes with it. Install the drivers so Windows will recognise it and you can move the cursor with the pen. Once that's done, load up p/shop and start painting/brushing/editing away Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?har har...
What does the tilt function on the intuos tablets do? Is it customisable and how versatile is it? Having had a rather basic tablet before, what are the pros in having a higher end tablet that a lower end tablet would not have? The intuos3 6x11 looks very very nice, but it does seem rather excessive for my intended use (and budget)...argh!
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I have a wacom 6x8, used it a few times, but 24 years using a mouse seems a hard habit to break... and, I'm with Matt K, can hold my beer in my left hand!

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?
You can actually try these out in some Digital City, Hardly Normal as well as specialist stores (one in Surrey Hills I can't remember) before buying especially since they are quite expensive.. I am happy with my bamboo mainly used for masking and extracting in photoshop. I am not sure how good the pressure sensitivity of mine but don't seem notice too much....
Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I've actually got 2 - my old original wacom tablet - just a littley that I use whenever I go away, and a newer larger wacom that lives on my desk - I can't use a mouse anymore, they give me the s**ts, if you persist with the tablet, it ends up being pure heaven

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?I love my wacom, pricless for photoshop, I hear you can get graphics tablets that display the screen live in the tablet, this technology is getting ahead of me now, but that would be even cooler.
Lots of goodies really, lets just say my lenses stretch from 10mm to 500mm with plenty of light at 5fps

Re: How many people own a graphics tablet?i had a 20 inch one years ago
then i downgraded to a 8x 12 one what iv'e noticed is that you dont really need a large one as i now use a 8x 12 one reason why is the tablet is like a virtual desktop, having a large one to requires more arm movement to get the pointer from one end of the screen to the other so in relation to using a mouse where your applying small movements to move the mouse around with a large wacom your movign your arm around more and if you do this for tedius desktop navigation tasks you get tired, of course you can reduce the virtual desktop in the settings menu but if you do that why buy a big wacom i have tried a 6x8 and its much better on the arm and the wrist Wendell Levi Teodoro
