First sunriseSo the kids woke me up early on Sunday morning - so I tried a sunrise for the first time.
Should I crop out the dam in the foreground? What about pp - this is straight out of the camera. D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm
Re: First sunrise
No, not at all, leave the damn dam in! It sets this image apart from a bazillion other sun{set, rise} shots. It's a great capture, and doesn't appear to require any PP (unless you want to go all candy-colour, which would move the image a lot closer to the bazillion). Re: First sunriseI would have grad a portrait orientated shot as well with more lake and relection and less dark edges.
Looks good. Also play with white balance settings and view results, ie cloudy or shade can produce good effects, and tugnsten looks real interesting whizzzz, there goes life again.....
But now captured on a Canon 40D with bits http://www.flickr.com/photos/wazonthehill/

Re: First sunriseI like the first posting better because it has deeper colour and more shadows and this contributes to create a mood.
Re: First sunrisei would have to agree with zafra, i much prefer the first post - the higher clouds contribute to the mood and i prefer it in landscape format.

Re: First sunriseI like the first as well. I would consider croping out some of the top of this though.
