What lens I'd like to be able to buy

ATM, we are all sitting around waiting with great expectation that Nikon will be kind enough to announce the release of a lens that will be *JUST* perfect for our needs at the upcoming PMA,especially in my case a mid range zoom.

I love the 70-200 2.8 VR, but I'd like more reach plus the price leaves me cold. Similarly, I love the reach (and price) of the 80-400 VR, but would prefer AF-S and maybe a slightly better maximum aperture.

What I would like to see is a (approx) 100-300 VR f4 AF-S lens. I would imagine they could probably knock one up for about the cost of the 70-200 2.8 VR. Slightly smaller maximum aperture (cheaper to produce) but about the same zoom ratio of the 70-200. It would go lovely with the 1.4TC giving 420mm at an acceptable f5.6.

But then again, what would I know, I'm just a dumb shmuck with money burning a hole in his pocket that could be in the pocket of the Nikon Corporation

Johndec,
Nikon has few new lenses to release in the coming PMA but not the one that you wish.

xerubus,
If that's happened, it will cost you a premium

Well if that one is going to cost a premium then we might as well just ask for the 400mm 2.8 AF-S VR and be done with it
