Another Scanner Q

I have decided on getting some film gear (an M6 + 35 lux non asph )

Can anyone provide feedback on this model?
Nikon COOLSCAN V LS-50 ED

Or if there are any comparable units available for a similar price?

I.M.H.O. I would go for the Epson V700 or 750.
Does MF, LF, slides,negatives and flattop.
Is almost the same quality as a dedicated film scanner.

If you buy a good scanner. You use it and then get sick of it, its easily sold on the great auction site. So the use price is not that great.

I forgot the names but isn't that the one that only scans 35mm stuff? That one isn't too bad but yeah, the Epson V700 is very good and very popular as well.

I agree with Ivanerrol. The Epson V700 outscans most film scanners and is a treasure of a machine. It scans any sized negs at ridiculously high resolution and can be used for prints too.

Im going to vote for the filmscanner. I owned the Epson 4990PRO flatbed scanner (V700 replaced it) for scanning 35mm.

Flatbeds are a huge pain in the ass for dust. They need to be basically spotless (I found Epsons ACE - dust removal pretty useless) to get no wigglies / dustspots in there.
You need to wipe clean each time you open up and keep your negs dustfree.

filmscanners are not as susceptible to dust. - If you dont think you'll scan in prints (which you could buy a cheap-a$$ scanner for) then I would stick with a filmscanner.

You could try and find someone / somewhere you could rent / borrow a unit - give it a test and see if it is your solution.

I have supervised the scanning of over 10,000 negatives of all formats on an Epson V700 and have had none of the problems you describe. Cleanliness is paramount in any scanning operation. I have scanned many 35mm negs on a film scanner and believe the Epson produces a much better result. There are countless reviews of the V700 on the internet and they are all glowing. Thanks Matt. While credible, it is unfortunately for an unrelated printer .

To be honest, I am thinking of the Nikon purely because I hate the neg/slide holder parts. That said, I know this Epson v700 is a good model, and yields good results. The working environment I will be soon operating in, is fairly industrial and will be combined with other things that generally generate dust. Thems the breaks, even though I am planning for a extraction fan etc. I don't really need to scan anything flat (prints), though I might occasionally use that function for design /motion design assets.

I also think that the Nikon auto feed will be worth it with my expected useage, seeing as I have no backlog of 35mm, esp framed slides, to scan.

Seemingly the majority cases with "magic one-size-fits-all" software filters...

...also the case with my PS batch actions that try to 'batch fix' images of all variations.
I am currently faced with a high volume photo submission for a mag. I have done these to mixed effects in the past, and perghaps to effect that would disgust people here, but there is a certain commercial reality involved. Just ask TonyH what happens when a printing press is quiet...

To even further hijack the post... I am having digital champagne for all; my M6 and 35lux are about 300mm away from my hand!!!
