These are some great shots. Can i ask if you were in the crowd or did you have a media pass or something? What gear were you using?

Thanks!

Thanks

I was just sittimg down in the first row of the crowd, as it turns out you really weren't that far away from the sideline. I did not bother with a MP.

I used my D300, with Sigma 120-300 F/2.8 and Sigma 1.4TC. Shooting at about 1/1000 and F/4. ISO200 - so nice to do daytime sport for a change, this game was at 4 though hence the strong side lighting which isn't ideal.

Great shots, consider how hard it actually is to *predict* the moment and capture it in good composition. TFS!

Do you usually get a MP? How hard is that to get? I'm assuming that you do a lot of night sports stuff. I have been doing that for a while and have some pretty ordinary shots compared to daytime stuff. Care to give some advice on the nighttime photography? Basically i have the 70-200mm nikon lens and i find its hard to get close enough with that so i usually use a 2x teleconverter, but that pushes the lens to 5.6 which is terrible for night. Is it a matter of springing for a longer lens or are there ways around this?

I have MP for things like A-Leaue ad Super 14. Very hard to get, impossible probably for freelancer.

You're going to need to forget about using a TC at night, you'll need for F2.8. Crop agressively to get tighter action rather than rely on TC. You'll need to have a high SS and sharp pictures to allow that.

Depending on what camera you have high ISO will have to be your friend, 1600 probably. So, you'll either have a camera that can handle this (eg a D300, D3, Canon Mkiii) or a good program in PP like Noise Ninja etc and often both,

It's not an easy thing to get around. Most serious shooters of night sports have a 300 or 400 2.8 and high-end cameras.

Great shots.... you can almost feel how close the desperation of the player trying to avoid the tackle.

Impressive shots i'm Easts Tigers supporter and the action is a lot closer than you think it's a really good field. I wanted to go to this game but was unable to so i'm going to the Titans vs West Tigers (the real tigers i'm a huge Tigers fan) instead can't wait.
