Joe,

I like the first of these. Good composition, great use of the light ...

The second ... I think a lower angle might help it. As it is now, it does nothing at all for me: it's not even a pic of a car ... it's a bloody Cortina. :)

I think you really nailed the first photo, exposure, composition. There is not much (if nothing) to critic here :D.

To a point, Joe, but there's a couple of issues in this image that make this one not quite do the job that I described earlier.

In your second shot, you are both directly behind, and closer to, the vehicle. Here, the car seems to have taken off, and you're location is more to the centre of the grid, rather than directly behind the vehicle.

Those two points make this a very different image from the original .... and well worthy for consideration of yet different treatment again: crop this into a pano format ... use the light tower on the left as your guide, keeping the whole of the tower in frame, plus a bit - just a bit - of space above it. Now, give the road beneath the car the same amount of space, so you you now have a good pano crop. Now, remove some of the image to the right of the car ... maybe keep the word "Castrol", but not "Edge", or perhaps around the space between D and G en "Edge". Keep everything on the left ....

Cheers. :)

Words of wisdom Gary!

Here is (mostly) the crop suggested by Gary. I also straightened it a bit and probably went a little wider than he was suggesting.

This edit I did on behalf of Joe, he suggested it and I tried to get what he wanted from it...

Great work Joe, you are getting a keen eye for the drags :)

The April issue of Digital Camera Magazine (the UK one. dcmag.co.uk) that just arrived on my doorstep has a fairly in depth article on processing for HDR. I had a flick though it with my morning coffee before I started work and It's quite interesting... although if you intend on picking up a copy from the news agency, you might have to wait about 2 months before that issue arrives. It just takes that long to get here!

EDIT: Nice photos by the way.... I did mean to add that in... I like the way the first shot has been processed with the HDR. :D
