POTW 04.03.08

Postby Geoff on Tue Mar 04, 2008 4:05 pm

This week, I have chosen Quang's image of the sunrise down at Bateman's Bay. Despite it not being a 'spectacular' sunrise, and the lack of a prominent sun, his use of HDR and processing have really made this photo somewhat mysterious and eery, not often a result of a 'common' sunrise image.

The contrasting colours, grey/blue, green, orange and brown merge to make this easy to look at, almost wanting more. I'd like to see this on canvas! The silky appearance as a result of the long exposure is also appealing. Well done Quang.

Yes, it's a very good image. Quite a 3D feel to it. I think you need to see the larger image to fully appreciate how good it is.

Congrats to our new member Quang, and a great pick from Geoff.

HDRs can look great when they're done really well, if not....
This is done really well.

Yeah i said in the original thread that i wasn't a big fan of HDR. But this one is really well done. I hate the almost comic look of most HDR. Especially with something like this shot. But you've done really well. Congrats.

Well done again!

Digifrog, what happened between your comment on March 19th of 'very nice pic' and April 15th of 'stunning well done'. A cynical person could say that you don't even read the comments above, not even when they are your own. Please stop these wasteful posts.
