Numbat - The WA Fauna emblemNumbats - Myrmecobius fasciatus or Walpurti or Banded Anteater originally were selected as the WA fauna emblem 'cos they're cute critters. Sadly they were almost extinct too, however due to a number of breeding and release programs, they are now classified as vulnerable or at-risk. They live in the forrests of South West WA and munch on a diet of termites.
All these were taken with my *new* D300 (Thanks Gary and Poon) and my Xmas present from my wife, a 18-200mm Nikkor VR (Thanks Gary and Poon). Images cropped and resized in Capture NX, but no PP as yet - I may do some if you folks recommend it, but I kinda like 'em the way they are. Forum Images are sized at 750 * 500pixels and around 200K , click on them for a 1200*800 higher quality image around 600K 640ISO; F5.6; 1/640sec; 170/255mm focal length 640ISO; F5.6; 1/500sec; 170/255mm focal length 640ISO; F5.6; 1/640sec; 170/255mm focal length 640ISO; F5.6; 1/640sec; 170/255mm focal length Let me have some C&C please. Re: Numbat - The WA Fauna emblemNumbats rock. They also have the longest tongue I have ever seen on an animal.
I assume this is one of the fellas at the Perth Zoo? The pics are good. A difficult subject to shoot due to their quick movements and timid nature. Steve.

Yup, it certainly is. It took an extraordinary amount of patience to get him to come out. My advice would be to never go to the Zoo on weekends or school holidays - kids are v v noisy. Cheers
Bob in sunny Perth What gear? Watch this space!
Re: Numbat - The WA Fauna emblemGreat shots!
I'd PP that pesky bit of bright green pine branch that sits behind him in the first 3, and darken the log behind him in the last one. But I know nuffin. Michael
