Permits to photograph in Sydney Parks/beaches?

Another question for you all. Do you need permits to take photos in the parks around the Northern beaches? Eg; Clontarf, Dee Why.

It really only matters if you are being paid and the result is going to commercial print. I assume you are taking portraits for non-commercial use? Being paid does not make it commercial - hope that makes some kind of sense

Yes, makes perfect sense. It's basically to take family portraits for money. Commercial, I gather, would be if I was taking photos of cars for an add etc....
definitely not doing that!

Really who is going to stop you if it looks like a family do. What a joke this world has become.
Who cares if you shoot anything unless you look like you are doing something immoral.
If you were smart and were doing something immoral I'm sure it wouldn't be shot in a public space.

Shoot it any way and see who aproaches you. i bet no one!

no, commercial would be advertising campaigns or using the backdrop of the harbour bridge for the basis of a financial report (this is my take on it anyway)

I don't know what the rules are in Sydney, but professional wedding photograpers are charged a fee to shoot in the Adelaide botanic gardens.

From the Environment SA website:

Wedding Photography

For couples who require wedding photography in the Botanic Gardens independent of a wedding ceremony package, your commercial photographer must obtain a permit for $100.

I think you find that it has more to do with reserving a piece of land for shooting and any associated insurances etc. Whilst it is a public area, if you want to reserve a section of the park where the public would not be permitted whilst you're shooting then this is fair and reasonable. I took part in a commercial shoot at Centennial Park with Better Homes and Gardens (I supplied the dog for Dr Harry to demonstrate obedience) where this area was roped off from the public - not that that stopped some of the idiots from getting in the way and being real PITA's.
