Northern Lights @ Adelaide

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Wow you certaily crammed a lot into the 4 post limit, may have been better to post a couple of single shots showing the detail with your url for more but like the postcard format - it's very effective.
Looks like you did well with exposures - but hard to say from small shots
Have fun

Bit too small to visualise but they look good. Most photos don't do justice to this event and it was far better to be there.

#1: Earlier this afternoon you made this post with seven embedded images. I put an edit into that post, changing three of those images to just links. I also included within my edit a brief description to you oif what I had done, and why, referring you to the message that appears at the top of this page, and at the top of the page when you made your original post, telling you that there should be no more than four images per post.

#2: You then went back into that post, changed my edits so that they were again embedded images, and removed my note explaining what I had done.

#3: At which point point do you believe that you have the authority to remove the edits of an admin?

#4: At which point do you believe that you have the suthority to not simply completely ignore the rules of this forum, but, having been told that you have broken them, you then come back and just go and break them again?

#5: I am trying hard to avoid the fact that you included no less than TWENTY-TWO IMAGES within the first four of the images you have posted. FOUR images means FOUR images. It does not mean TWENTY TWO IMAGES. Posting more than four images is always permissible, when there is a justifiable reason (demonstrating a technique) or with the prior approval of one of the Mods or Admins. This is not a demonstration of any particular technique, and you did not, to my knowledge, seek the approval of any of the mods or admins.

Please remember that this is an image review and critique section. You have broken more of our rules than I care to even bother to count. I am not impressed.

Please, do not even think of trying this sort of stuff again.

I like what you've done with the 4 images. It illustrates very well the diversity of the lighting event as they can be compared easily. Well done.

I haven't noticed I have broken the rules until 26/3 morning. I didn't see any notice when I editing my post(I was just adding the numbers to my images).
#2
I think I clicked the "edit" (which have 7 images) before you edited my post to 4 images. So after I edited, the post still have 7 images.
#3
I didn't mean to break the rules.
#4
I have answered above.
#5
Can't argue whether there are 4 images or Twenty-Two images there.

Anyway, I didn't mean to do so. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Gary is referring to the text that appears at the top of EVERY page in the Image Review & Critiques section even when editing posts. It's in a box of its own headed Forum Rules (scroll to the top of this thread and you'll see it). Both it and the FAQ say quite explicitly "no more than four images per post". The text has been there for some time and the guidleines even longer. Maybe now is a good time to go read the FAQ just in case there is something else you've missed. I guess the important thing is you'll be aware of this in future

G'day

Pay attention to the location thingy in the FAQ, I think you'll find a profile update is required too.

I managed to *get away* with my location being "Perth, WA" for about two years until I noticed it last Monday. Perhaps some leeway is extended to us small city dwellers? or perhaps my username compensated.
Cheers

No. The numbers were there when I first edited your post. I know that they were there because I had to navigate around them.

And as Stubbsy has pointed out, the message appears at the top of every page in this section. That applies whether you are viewing, editing, or making a new post. So, it was there before you made your post, as you made your post, after you made your post, whe n you edited your post, and when you would have seen your post after completing your edit. I can see it on my screen now, and it's been there since we switched to the new software at the beginning of January.

Further, and as has also been already explained, this rule is nothing new; it has been in place for several years.

No, your original post had seven embedded images. I changed three of those to links, and included a comment about what I had done, and with a reference to the rules. If I recall correctly, I may have even used the term "too many images". You came back, changed the links back to embedded images, and removed my comments.

And I do recall correctly. To be precise, you made your initial post at 5:10 pm, Sydney time. I edited the post at 5:39pm. I know this, because it's in the moderator logs. I then needed to edit the post again, which occurred at 10:54pm. Again, I know this because it's in the moderator logs.

How would you suggest the images reappeared as embedded links between 5:39 and 10:54 pm if not through your edit ?

And as Bob has pointed out, you should have a look at how your location in your profile is recorded. Please, as suggested by Bob and Peter, review the FAQ, and make the appropriate adjustments.

Your apology is noted and accepted. Thank you.
