Howdy all - noobie here !

Mostly shoot Motorsports lately and just published a book through blurb.com entitled MMVII for another pic website.
But recently getting more into the stop action of sports like League / Soccer / Cricket etc... i think the facial expressions do it for me !

Well heres a few pics - LAY IT ON ME ...

OOPS - just read the 4 images per post thing ... my Sony ... do you want me to split it up ?

It's not really about splitting things up rather it's about putting your best foot forward. Generally 4 images from a session should be more than enough for a review/critique if that's what you're after. For images beyond that just include a link to your gallery. So here you might include two motorsport and 2 cricket images for example and a link saying more here. If you have an entire gallery to show off there's another forum here called Gallery Updates in the members only area, but you don't have enough posts etc to qualify for that area yet.

Normally I'd just edit your post and remove all but the first 4 shots, but I'll give you a chance to choose your best photos first.

Thanks for correcting the number of images in your post.

Looking at the images:
#1 - is way better than I can do panning since I'm not very good at it, but I think you've not quite nailed it with that one. The car is a touch blurred (unless that is what you were aiming for) and this detracts from the image for me. For motorsports images you can find some great examples here that have razor sharp cars and nice blurred backgrounds (images by Raskill & MattyO spring to mind, but there are plenty of others).
#2 - for an accident this one works for me. I can't explain why, but I like it
#3 - This one is the best of this set. It has what #1 lacks IMHO _ The foreground car is nice and sharp and the OOF background cars and blurred background give a good strong impression of speed.
#4 - I'm not sure about this one - it looks like a good action shot, but I can't see the ball. Perhaps this is apparent in a larger image.

I pretty much agree with Stubbsy - #3 for me. Good shutter speed, DOF, composition, sharpness.

IMHO, #4 is nothing special - for cricket I think you need to get CLOSE, which means a LONG lens. (One of my mates shoots for Gettys here in Perth, and has a 600/4, and has been known to use a TC on it.…)

Here's one I shot at the Twenty20 final at the WACA. (Sigma 120-300/2.8 with a 2xTC attached.)



This obviously look better bigger, but I can't be bothered re-exporting it to get an 800 width, so 500 will have to do. And it weighs less

Looking at the images:

Time to invest in a 300 or 400 IMO - currently have 200 f/4-c L USM + 2xTC connected to a Canon 30d

1st shot looks good would be better if it was more in focus, and 3rd shot looks spot on only needs to be bigger
