Nice results mate, I'm not overly into bikes but for your first time you've produced some nice shots. (sounds like you were having flash issues ?)

Joe,

Nice work indeed. Sharp and mostly well framed, which is a part of the challenge of this sort of photography.

You might like to look at how you're saving the images: I'm seeing each of these as being around the 500K size, which tells me that you've saved these in a fairly high resolution. That creates a potential issue for you, because others may download your high res images and thus rip-off your IP in these images, and it creates potential issues for those members here who are not on broadband: these four images add up to a 2MB download, and on dial-up that's not a pretty sight.

You should be able to save your images at a significantly lower resolution, so that the file sizes each are somewhere between 60 - 150K in size. That permits you to overcome both of these issues. :)

Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Nice first attempts, nothing like jumping in at the deep end. You did well to get the images so sharp. I take it IS was on?

I would have been tempted to keep the lens wide at 2.8 and slow the shutter speed a little more, even as low as 1/80. That would have assisted the exposure, and possibly negated the need for a flash. Not sure what the ISO is like on a 350D, Canon is usually pretty good, so 800 should have been easy enough for it. Possibly could maybe go higher and use some NR reduction later, or shoot RAW and pump up exposure later also. So many options to think about, so little time!!!

Like the others have said, well done.

Awesome framing and sharpness. I take that you used on camera flash not wireless off camera flash?

thanks..yes IS was on ..was looking for a super IS button but alas couldn't find one :D .I will definately have a crack at shooting at lower shutter speed..from talking to the gate staff they practice 5 nights a week so i have opportunity now to test everything out especially non flash stuff....It was good workout with shooting on the fly though..Another DSLR member was there with me(shorty) ..He was on the outside of the track shooting..He did well under the circumstances while using my 90-300 4.5 non anything lense :D

cheers Joe

nice shots there!
the last one looks quite similar to a lot of downhill MTB photos.

for the 2nd pic, how would a wide shot look? just to show the size of the jump :)
