hi people

whats the best site for reading up on nikon tech regarding camera dynamic pattern 'closest subject priority focusing' issues
need to work out if its worth using this settign other than the 'single focus mode im currently using

Ken Rockwell often talks about this sort of thing. I'm prety sure the Nikon website does too

here is a group of videos about the D3 from Moose Peterson
the first ones on the top are about the auto focus system and lot of it will be relevant to other Nikon cameras like the D300, D2x and D200

For good info on the AF modules and how to use the various modes.... you might want to check out (depending on which model you have)

what thom hogan dont know about nikons isnt worth knopwing
