Nikon market share 2007"When it comes to the strategically important and fast-growing market of SLR cameras, Canon remained No. 1 worldwide in 2007 but lost share to Nikon, new statistics show.
Canon sold 3.18 million single-lens reflex cameras in 2007 compared with Nikon's 2.98 million, according to a study released Tuesday by market researcher IDC. That represents a 42.7 percent and 40 percent share, respectively, of the 2007 SLR market. It's a much narrower margin for Canon than in 2006, when it had 46.7 percent of the market, compared with Nikon's 33 percent." Re: Nikon market share 2007That should help to drive up the competition between them. I hope Nikon don't sit back on their laurels now.
Re: Nikon market share 2007Given the late arrival of the D300 and D3 (relative to the total period under review) I'd have to say that much of that improvement in Nikon's market share would be due to the D40/D40x models, which have totally dominated the lower end of many markets.
With the D3 and D300 now in the market, the upcoming year's statistics should make for some very interesting reading. Unit sales in the pointy end of the market will of course be lower, but from a consumer's PoV, things have never been better. g.

Re: Nikon market share 2007It seems Nikon has unveiled some winners, time for Canon to respond with a ground breaking 5D MkII.

Re: Nikon market share 2007i doubt the d300, d3 or even a 5dII will have much impact on those numbers. they dont sell that many top end cameras. those figures are based on number of sales which would surely be driven by the lower end where the volume, if not profit margin, is highest. i expect that canon may actually increase their share for 2008 given the pisspoor d60, no d90 yet and the, at first glance, excellent xsi.

Re: Nikon market share 2007I think it's all thanks to NCIS personally
Those Nikon straps look pretty good on telly (even if most real people get rid of them as soon as they can get their hands on a decent strap!) *** When getting there is half the fun! ***

Re: Nikon market share 2007It is nice to see the margin narrowing and the competition getting hotter.. Hopefully both users would benefit...

Re: Nikon market share 2007
lol!!! I cant c y the Nikon D60 will struggle against the 450D, i picked up the 450D the other day and the first thing i thought was nice screen!! then i went to use it and it was CRAMPED!!! the buttons are so cramped now, and it still lacks that solid feel. I wonder what Sony's impact on the market this year will do, they do have a few more models out atm Cameron

Re: Nikon market share 2007
I have been seeing a lot more Nikon straps on TV, it seems like they are the choice of all the crime fighting forces in those shows, although i would suspect the Fuji IS Pro to be a more likely choice. for the record, i have kept my Nikon strap on my D300, no need to replace it, not atm, although i may get something else as this one gets dirtier!!
