Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. ImpactA droplet of milk at the moment of impact. The swirl was a by product of a few attempts and me stirring the milk into the red base. C&C most welcome. Click for larger

Re: ImpactNice shot!
Gos 'spin' on the other droplet shots. Saw the original, were you using a high ISO? D80, D90 | SB600 | 18-200 VR | 80 400 VR | 18-135 DX AF-S, 70-300 AF, 50 1.8 | Lotz of other bitz
Re: ImpactNo, but my camera will only sync to 1/250 with the flash, so I was limited to what I wanted to do. I would have liked to have used 1/1000th. Still the moment is there, and to get the shot like it is was pretty lucky. So I will take it.
Re: Impactnice ...very nice
Re: ImpactPerhaps I should have put this image in a separate thread. As with the other image. A droplet of milk in a bowl. C&C most welcome.
Re: ImpactNice shot, welcome captured.
Re: ImpactI fixed the first shot which looked a little flat (I forgot to change it from Adobe RGB to SRGB). Should be better now.
Re: Impact
As long as you eliminate ambient light from influencing the exposure, by using a smallish aperture and a fairly low light level, the shutter speed is irrelevant in this sort of shot - the exposure duration is governed solely by the flash duration - hence the effect you see. To get a better "hit rate" you could look into making a simple sound trigger - I think Jaycar might have a kit. Cheers What's another word for "thesaurus"?
Re: ImpactI figured it all out by the end. The bowl shot was a 10 second exposure.
