D300 as a video cameraYep. Thats right.
Leigh is currently reviewing a video capture device that accepts, amongst other things, inputs from a video source. The D300 is a video source, isn't it? We've run it through the big projector, for instance. So ... Leigh plugged the D300 into this capture device, set the D300 into live view mode, and this is the result. This provides some very interesting possibilities. Consider for instance the quality that you can get from some high ISO imaging. Especially when you realise that this is also possible with a D3. Of course the D300 doesn't have any sound capture, so you'd need to add a microphone to the mix, but as a means of grabbing some viseo, this is an interesting concept. g.

Re: D300 as a video cameraWhy does the picture keep dropping out?
Re: D300 as a video cameraI don't think it will catch on Gary, specially without variable exposure, but I appalude your Son's lateral thinking.

Re: D300 as a video cameraI heard this a week ago at work and first thing was 'WHAT'.
But then I guess it's fine cos I've seen videos of the 40D. Then again, not too useful anyway. Blog: http://grevgrev.blogspot.com

Re: D300 as a video cameraThe video drops out when you're focusing.
Best to switch it to manual. And it's not Dad's lateral thinking, it's mine thank you very much. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Re: D300 as a video cameraVery interesting, but it appears that the D300 does not adjust exposure by itself without focusing and dropping the mirror down?
Re: D300 as a video cameraA video that uses a dirty wash basket as the main object of interest seems rather pornographic

Re: D300 as a video cameraInteresting application, I can see really creative people making something of this, what with editing an all. I remember seeing a trailer to a movie that was shot entirely on a DSLR, pretty cool stuff.
Leigh, you need to clean your room dude! Mark
