Holiday Snaps #2

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

OK, I am not making excuses - but I am VR deprived. No VR. None.

That 80-400 VR would do me very nicely, very nicely indeed. And it would make shots like this one better......

However, there was a pelican, there was me with camera, what are you gonna do? Tamron 70-300 at full stretch, ISO800, not enough light, too much coffee.

Pelican in Flight. Comments welcome.

Don't worry Greg, it's a bloody good effort with the lens you used.

Kipper you bast#&!d you just had to say it didn't you? :x :)

Some of us don't have a Birddog to get us great bargains. Way to rub it in.

In all seriousness Kipper, you must really be looking forward to it. Your images have to be pretty awesome now.

Yeah, just hoping it doesn't take too long as there is a world shortage on them.

However even if I don't get to use it at the F1GP, I'm going down to Tower Hill at Koroit for Easter so I should be able to capture some nice images down there in the wetlands. Also I will be taking some drives to Port Fairy. Might do some research now and see what there is too shoot.

Anyway that's OT. Great shot Greg, was that the full framed picture or did you do a bit of cropping?

Nice pic GregB, as you have so aptly demonstrated, it's not how big it is, it's how you use it that matters!

Cheers

Greg

If that's what you can do without it, imagine what you'll get when you have VR.

Excellent shot.

Great shot Greg, by the look of the water were you panning slightly when you shot it?

Thanks folks. Yes Glen, panning slightly. The lake at Merimbula is a great spot for birdlife - hopefully that is an indication that it is in good ecological condition. The oysters that come from it sure were nice.

Done well Greg, i think he looks great for the lens u r using so yeh and sometimes they do get a bit dirty underneath there body which sometimes makes them look shabby but still great birds and good shot.

kipper, Tower Hill hey at Warnambool is very nice haven't been there for awhile but do go when i go to my doctor over there now and then and is a great spot as well. hope u have fun.
