Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?Hey guys,
I have to send some photos to the US fairly quickly and came across a bit of a dilemma. Its 350mb of stuff, so I figured Id wack it on a CD and off we go to the post office. I bought one of the express post international envelopes, put the CD in it, and thought nothing more of it. It was well and truly under the size dimensions so there wasn't a problem there. Anyway, it turns up on my door step today with "RETURN TO SENDER: NON-DOCUMENTS". So I'm guessing they scanned it and saw there was a CD inside instead of paper (if anyone knows what difference that actually makes id love to know?). So does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking something like "Yousendit.com" but its only free for 100mb, so id have to split it into 4 zip folders and upload it all... god knows how long that would take.. Oh and I went back to the post office, and the guy at the desk told me that it would cost me $46.00 to send it via courier to the US!!!!! because its not documents... so I politley declined his offer . Anyone have a better idea? Thanks in advance! Brett http://www.BrettHemmings.com

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?since you have a website, can't you ftp it to your server and provide the link to the client to download? That's the quickest way.

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?That's weird. I have sent DVDs and CDs to the US quite often and never had a problem.
What did you put on the customs declaration?
Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?upload it to http://www.megaupload.com and then give the link to your client. May take an hour or two or three to upload but the plane still wont beat it

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?I’ve sent both DVD and CD disks worldwide with no problems at all. I just use airmail express.

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?I thought of the FTP way but I didnt want to waste 350mb of my download limit for the month because I only have 1gb.
Thanks, I'll go with the megaupload place and leave it running over night. I suspect the person I spoke to at the post office had no idea what he was talking about... Thanks guys http://www.BrettHemmings.com

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?if you have a flickr pro account, just up load and they can d/l from the other end. If not megaupload, filefactory, rapidshare will do the work.
Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?
This is an upload for you, not a download. Many accounts do not count uploads in traffic. Or are you talking about your Website limits? If it IS an issue, you could try doing it just before your accounting period ends. Greg

It certainly counts on Bigpond.
Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?Hi,
I'm not sure about megauploads, but I've been using sendspace.com, which works well for me. I think they only have a 300mb limit for per file uploaded, might work for you... Ming

Re: Sending 350mb of stuff to the USA?Mr Darcy, Yeah it would count as an upload for me (which I have unlimited), but for the client to download the actual file is considered a download off my monthly limit.
I ended up going back to the post office today and speaking to someone else, the CD is now on its way to the US for a total cost of $4.35 with a 3-10 day arrival time... I don't know why I didn't query that idiots 46 dollar courier way in the first place. Thanks for the input guys. Oh and I found out why it came back undelivered. For a document you don't have to sign a customs declaration form, but for anything else, ie a CD, you have to sign a form and show ID to post it, which the original person didn't ask me to do. http://www.BrettHemmings.com
