Freezing!

Went to the snow for the weekend. Coldest I've seen it- the BOM said it was -13!! Made for a cold night sleeping in the car and wandering around before sunrise but a beautiful place to be. There was some snow and a very icy frost. The first is a 8 shot panorama using panosaurus head.







Any feedback?

I have been printing the panorama shots I do on a a Roll sheet I got from a garage sale for $1! on an Epson R1800, they come out about 900 long by 200 high.

You made a mistake sleeping in the car. I found from experience even the most basic of shelters is warmer than a car. I think it has to do with all that metal.

I had a few time constraints so got there Friday afternoon and walked 45mins to the porcupines opposite Perisher. Stayed till after sunset and walked back with a headlamp. Then up early for some shots around charlottes as you guessed, and didnt have time to walk the main range as had to leave by 11am. Only there for a few hours but I dont mind the drive from Sydney.

Youre probably right about the car being colder than a tent- it was minus 3 inside the car when I woke up. It's just easy to take off straight away in the morning and not break camp (once the ice melts off the inside of the windscreen!). You also dont have to worry about the wind which can really blow down there. I've got a decent sleeping bag so was warm as toast while I slept.

Thanks for the positive comments- I did a few more panos but still learning with the new panoramic head.

It's just easy to take off straight away in the morning and not break camp (once the ice melts off the inside of the windscreen!).

I use a bivy bag for these situations. Get up, roll it loosely, with the mat and bag still in it, and throw it in the back of the car. Next night just toss it on the ground beside the car and crawl in. Probably faster than sleeping in the car itself and warmer to boot.

The first 2 particularly, I really like. The tree of to the far left in the panoramic shot really helps to give some foreground interest.

Beautiful images, but the second one is tops for me. The frost on the grass, the clean water running and that blue sky is simply magnificent. Well done.

Love them all. I have plans to head down there is a few weeks and these have really inspired me. Gotta catch a gum tree heaped with snow!

gosh i miss that place... love the gum trees down in the snowy range. i like all of the shots but i am a bit biased
