d-d-photographics website moved

Postby aim54x on Sun Jun 08, 2008 12:14 am

Hey all, just wanted to say that I got a bit of a surprise when i went to d-d-photographics.com.au (which was in my browser history) and found that Bfilms loaded instead. As it turns out d-d-photographics has dropped the .au and is now

That's very odd. As recently as this morning the .au address was working for me and according to a whois search it's still registered to d-d-photographics. The .com address is due to expire 18th July and the .au one is current as well. My guess is they've always had the .com address as well as the .com.au address and someone has hijacked the .com.au one this evening.

You can't assume it's been hijacked, but if a web site doesn't have good server security it's possible for someone to compromise the site (eg through a known security hole) and replace the web site code with other code. In this instance the whole web site structure is gone and replaced with a single main page and flash animation from http://www.bfilms.com.au Other pages just aren't there anymore (eg this morning http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/nikond3.htm worked, but now gives an Apache error so that page is missing). the d-d-photopgraphics site is registered via netregistry whereas bfilms is a Qld address registered via TPP internet so they don't look like the same people. All very odd.

It may be as simple as a server side misconfiguration.

Given the competence that some - many - web hosting services' staff display, this would not surprise me.

I noticed this but didn't have the flash player installed so couldn't see the .com.au site!

Whatever it was the .au site is back. Maybe it was a clever promotional exercise to see if they'd get another mention at dslrusers.com

If that was the case, then I have fallen for it and given them the mention on this site!
