New month - new Nikon?

Postby gstark on Tue Jun 17, 2008 8:35 pm

It's really quite amazing the rumours one hjears while in hospital recovering from a procedure.

Over the last few days there have been some rumours around about a possible D90, and we do know that there is a D3x in the works.

Well, gentlemen (and ladies), start your speculation and rumour engines, becauese I'm expecting something to break very early in July. Like, as early as the start of the new financial year.

May only be a PHD, but please keep your speculations to just this one thread.

And remember where you read it first.

July ? well that will be interesting. i was thinking August. so thats good i suppose. d90 yepp, d3x yepp. they've both been doing the rumour mill for a long time.

i could care less about bodies right now. i want glass. 85/1.4 af-s. i'd like an updated 200/4 micro too. and maybe even a 300/4 af-s VR...oh yeah and how about a 80-400 afs vr while they're at it. lol

time to end the embarressment nikon and reward us with mid-high end glass updates.

Yes an updated 85mm f1.4 AF-S would be lovely but not the inflated price that will surely by smacked onto it.
Then there's the dubiously named MB-D10 grip for the D300.. looks like a D10 is coming sooner rather than later.
Ah the lust continues just like my desert of savings..

After the D3, I didn't think Nikon would ever bring out another camera :) Why bother?

Bring on the new glass!!!!

AF-S primes!!! how good would AF-S versions of the: 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.4 be?
AF-S 300mm f/4VR, AF-S 80-400mm VR wouldn't be missed either!!
A new AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR fixing the FX issues and adding the Crystal Nanocoat would be a nice as well.

D3x - has been rumoured for a long time now, maybe it will materialize for the Olympic games
D10 - now that has been debated, maybe but then again maybe not, no one seems to be able to pinpoint where the spec should sit
D80x/D90 - overdue, so maybe soon

Maybe a reshuffle? ~ it is a long shot, but if the following happened then canon would not be happy
kill the D40, bring the D60 to a price point to compete with the EOS 1000D, slot the D90 at a price slightly higher than a 450D but spec it to take out a 40D (Or even bring in a D60x that can compete with the 450D) and maybe bring in the D10 to kill a 5D (or its replacement model)

Oh the power of dreams!!

The speculation about a D10 - as a full frame specced between the D300 and the D3 - is certainly interesting
with the nomenclature of the D300 vertical grip creating heightened expectations.

I suppose the Olympics could be seen as an opportunity to release a new model, you never know.

Especially when you scroll down to all the images and you can see the flash reflection on the glossy paper. If it is PS it is a really good job.

Yeah, current murmurs of an announcement on 1st July have been on for a while.

Another new rumour - of a D700, apparently with photos taken by someone at the printers for the brochure

No, not another rumour but the same rumour, and set of posts, referred to about a half dozen posts above your's. :) The Fred Miranda stuff goes back to the same link that you've posted.

And I can confirm that July 1 is the date I've heard.

The photos seem very legit. I mean who would bother to photoshop a fake D700, then print it on glossy paper and finally take pics of it?

I can finally upgrade my camera!

I know that things are a bit slow up there, but please .... please .... please .... take a few moments to read the thread before posting the same link that's already been posted twice before, and commented upon to exactly that point. :)
 BTW, I've heard a rumour that there'll be a Nikon D70 to answer Canon's 300D.

IOW, let's try to keep this thread for new information, rumours, and discussion thereof please

It's looking like a D300 with a D3 sensor basically. Obviously a modified mirror box and shutter assembly (perhaps the D3 units?) and pricing suggests low enough to give the 5D (and the 5D Mark II) a bit of a shake.

Whether they do something to the processing pipelines as they did with the D200/D80, and thus create some points of difference between the D700 and D3 is anybody's guess.

:agree:

Does the Micro Nikkor AF-S 200mm F/4 VR count as an AF-S prime? I dont think so, it is really a macro lens so I wouldn't count it as a fast prime.

It is almost depressing with the D700 looming (god all of a sudden the D300 seems like a toy) and that link is the first time I have heard of a new flash possibility, I wonder what a SB-900 will add?

It all seems certain that on the first of July Nikon will be announcing new equipment... the following day I will be attending a briefing to hear what they have to offer. One thing I do know is that there are no fast wide-angle lenses being announced... this is very sad as I think it is the one area of optics that they seem to be ignoring at the moment. Damn!
I will let you know what I think after the meeting!

maybe there will be a couple more lens' at photokina in september with the D3x ?
it might even make sense for a lens like the 85/1.4...(could it even be a 1.2 like canon ??), would be released with the studio style body.

sb900, if true, may just have more power. i dunno. a 360deg rotating head would be nice.

Perfect for shooting exorcisms. :)

The PC lenses in one of the rumour posts referred to above are not news, nor are they (nor will they be) new announcements. They were on display at PMA in Vegas in February.

50-150 f/2.8? Sounds strange, and if it's a full frame lens, it doesn't really fit with their current FF lens line-up and strategy. Perhaps it's going t be a DX?

I'm not thinking that at all. At the time the D3 and D300 were announced, I went through the thought processes of FX versus DX (not that I could have seriously considered the D3) and the result was that I personally see little value in an FX camera with the sort of photography I do and the lenses I have. Even if the D700 and D300 were released at the same time for the same price, I'd go for the D300.

Japan basically adopted that attitude and look at their economy.  :D

When I bought the D200, I didn't care less about what may or may not be announced at some undisclosed time in the future, and the specifications of that alleged new model. :D

From what I have seen, the D300 is plenty good, even if it is DX.

x2
i could only have a FX camera in addition to a DX cos i like the focal length of 1.5x. the d700 if it turns out to be true is fantastic for me cos i'd prefer it to a full size D3. if it also takes the mbd-10 then even better. same battery ? same charger ? this would be my ideal solution.

i'm finding it difficult to believe that one may be able to achieve d3 style iso performance from a $3k body.

Any lens that is not a zoom is a prime.

I meant a fast prime, as in f/1.8 or f/1.4 (or f/1.2 which I really would like to see)

I wonder what the bokeh will be like with that question mark shaped aperture.

i think we can safely say this is no longer a rumour, but a reality.

stroke of genius by nikon to have the d300 and d700 take the same battery, charger and grip. thats going to be a great selling point for enthusiats and pros who want 2 bodies. another great move is retaining the onboard flash is brilliant and the controls all being the same as a d300 will make using multiple bodies as simple as it can possibly be.

the D3 sensor is of course fantastic but i have to say, i woudl have rathered a braver move into a newer sesnor with greater dynamic range. still...cant complain about the bodies here. nikon is killing it at the mid-top end. now...if only they would give us some glass...
