Canon film bodies...I'm looking to get myself a Canon EOS film camera.... I'm quite keen on re-educating myself in the ways of film, having been entirely digital for years. (I generally shoot on a 5D these days)
Obviously I want to get an EOS camera, as I've got a number of EF lenses already. I had a look at a second hand EOS 3 (for £350) - does anyone have any other suggestions? One of the most important functions, for me, is the ability to switch auto focus to the * button on the back. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to go for? Canon tell me that they do still make film cameras, but I can't find anywhere that stocks them... Is the EOS 3 a good bet, or should I try to track down a new 30V? Any thoughts appreciated! Re: Canon film bodies...Welcome Hugh - a friend of mine from the UK purchased this camera whilst on holiday in Oz a couple or so years ago. I saw the results and was suitably impressed. Not sure on the pricing here in Oz but £350 seems to be a fair price.

Re: Canon film bodies...Thanks - I'm slowly getting more and more convinced about it. I got Canon to send me the list of custom functions so that I could check that I could actually switch where the AF was activated from....

Re: Canon film bodies...I have an EOS 1V HS and love it.
Custom function 4 allows you to select what the shutter button and AE lock button do. ---

Re: Canon film bodies...I think I'm probably going to go with the second hand EOS 3 that I looked at the other day...
I read somewhere that there was a way to check how many rolls had gone through it... Something to do with the buttons on the side of the camera. Anyone know the exact way? The place that I saw it have got 2 3s, and I'd rather go with the least used one. Hugh Macdonald

Re: Canon film bodies...On the 1V, the number of rolls can be seen by pressing the M.Fn. button on the side, I'm not sure if it'll be similar to the EOS3.
You can check the shutter to see if it is wearing/silver. ---

Re: Canon film bodies...
It appears not.... I had a look through their respective manuals, and where the M.Fn. button is on the 1V, the 3 has a battery check button. EOS 1V: EOS 3: It sounds like I'll just have to do a visual check of the shutter, then... Hugh Macdonald

Re: Canon film bodies...Hmm... I guess this forum doesn't allow linking to images, then?

Re: Canon film bodies...Well, I got myself an EOS 3 today.... I'm not sure exactly how old it is (OQ0419, whatever that means), but the place I got it from (which specialises in repairs) serviced it a couple of weeks ago. And I got it for cheaper because the self-timer light (which I never use) doesn't work.
Now I've just got to get some film! And figure out what film is good for what situation. Hugh Macdonald

Re: Canon film bodies...
We do. When images don't link, it's typically an issue at the image hosting source. g.

Re: Canon film bodies...Hmmm - okay.... My web server is being particularly odd, then.....
Ah well - all sorted in this case, though.... Hugh Macdonald
