A dumb question

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. We were all beginners at one stage, and even the most experienced amongst us will admit to learning new stuff on a daily basis. Ask away! Please also refer to the forum rules and the portal page

A dumb question

Postby NeoN on Tue Feb 22, 2005 4:02 pm

 This may sounds like a dumb question,or perhaps was asked before ,or perhaps is a technical difficulty, but is'nt it better if every post for example had a date and time  .
That way a newcomer like me
would know when it was posted, and how old the thread is.!!
Or is it case of [ Can't see the forest for the trees]...!
Thanks

Each post made on a thread has the date and time posted right above it.

Cheers

It's a very rare situation indeed when you will see me agree with the original poster's statement that what they're asking is, indeed, a dumb question. :)

A dumb question

Postby NeoN on Tue Feb 22, 2005 5:33 pm

 THANKS for the instructions boys, and your total agreement with me Gary, 8)
BUT on my screen the only date that shows is the date I joined,Which is 01-02-05 ,and that is on every post ,every page, maybe
I'm going blind or there is something wrong in the system, but the simple answer is I do not have any dates or times on my screen

maybe I should change my name
and hid behind a tree.help

Neon, we are not talking under your name, we are talking above the T of your Thanks and red face in your post above. Is there a thin line with above it a page then Posted: etc, etc ? Or maybe something is faulty?

You can't be more helpful than that Peter - very resourceful.

Hopefully NeoN's got an easily fixed technobug.

GAWD Peter! You'd be an expert in addressing 'dumb questions'!!

No offence NeoN - I know we seem to be having a go at you but we are genuinely concerned that you seem to have a problem. Did Stubbsy's image help?

Simon.

No offence taken Simon in fact humour is in my nature. :o
The image that Stubbsy sent is self explanatory and I'm grateful to him.
Unfortunately the problem still exists, and I 'm wondering where the problem lies. :!:

I'm afraid I can't throw any light on it NeoN (unintentional pun) but I'm sure Gary (gstark) or Leigh (Nnnnsic) can probably help with site related problems like this.

It may be a date format setting in Windoze or IE that needs to be adjusted :?:

Neon have you checked the date format under "profile" at the top of the page?

That looks to me as if it is showing the correct information, although the formatting may not be correct.

Go into your profile, and set the date format to

d M Y h:i a

Just copy and past this in, exactly as I've typed it.

Then tell us what it looks like.

If it's still not right, please let us know, but also if you can post a screen capture, that would help.

That would be it.

Change it to the valifd formatting characters that I've given you, and you should be right.

What it's doing now is formatting the date as per the literal format you've provided. The system is working correctly, believe it or not. :)

And in the end, it wasn't the question that was dumb after all. ;)
