Where to buy Nikon D80 cheap?

Postby Bam on Fri Jul 04, 2008 12:04 am

I was hoping some of you Melborne people could help me? :)

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a Nikon D80 relatively cheap? Any personal experiences companies?

Im assuming an Australian model would be best as it will come with the relevant warranty and power cords etc?

Thankyou kindly

DD does not sure about Photobuff, that is why I recommended VanBar and DCW

I emailed DD and got this reply:

Yes all of our Nikon D80 are Australian stock. They are all prepared for the Australian market and come with English manuals and Australian compatible power chords.

What, precisely, did you ask them? That sounds like marketing doubletalk (aka bullshit) to me, and it sometimes helps to ask specific questions, and to pay very close attention to what is (and is not) said. AFAIK, their stock is sourced from HK.

You might try asking if their stock is coming through Nikon Australia, and if it carries a Nikon Australia warranty. Please use something very close to that exact wording.

"prepared for the Australian market" could mean anything, and wtf does "Australian compatible power cords" mean? Poon includes an adaptor, and IMHO that makes his power cords "Australian compatible". As all of the camera bodies, regardless of the distribution channel, are manufactured within the one factory, then it could be reasonably said that they are all "prepared for the Australian market".

I believe they offer their own warranty, but that is NOT a Nikon Australia warranty. Same with HKS, and I'm not for a moment suggesting that that is an issue. You simply need to be alert to what they are truly saying.

I asked them whether their Nikon D80's were Australian models. I will be very specific from now on, thanks for the tip!

No problems, afaik it should be Australian stock (ie. sourced via Nikon Australia) since its DIgitalCity and i've never heard of them dealing with grey stock before.
I'm not 100% sure.. but assuming that their online store is just a sidekick to their bricks and mortar operations then it should be the same stock regardless of which store you get it from.

If you're not sure, DCW (NSW based) and CameraStore (Sth Aust based) are definitely resellers of reasonably priced genuine aussie stock D80
http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod3879.htm $1070
http://www.camerastore.com.au/frequentl ... stions.htm $1049

as for having the 18-200 and D80 for under 1700..you'll be looking at grey (non aussie) stock.

Great choice of hardware, I have the D80 with the 18-200VR and love it.
I started with the 18-135 kit lens and it served me well but the lack of VR was annoying, if you can afford to start with a VR lens do so!
