Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Dan, those 4 images made me realise the nice catchlights in the eyes provided by a ringlight. Nice work

Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!
I hate ringlight catchlights, (love the light elsewhere though), I cant take my eyes off the alien-like rings... in fact its the reason I dont have one... yet...

Eddie Macquire has one, it only shines sometimes...
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!
This is a ring light: __________
Phillip **Nikon D7000**
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Phillip, they are all very nice pictures. The ring reflection on their eyes makes them look extraterrestrial. I would change it unless that's the vampire effect you want. Nevertheless, they are very good.
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!For one Phillip didnt take the images....for two have a look at some fashion mags and beauty shots....catchlights like this in the models eyes are quite common.
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!A ring light works extremely well if you are into offbeat pics such as #3 and #4. Unfortunately I have to agree with those making a negative comment on #1 and #2. So there you have it, a positive critique and a negative. I must admit that #4 does nothing for me as the colour makes its look as if she should be in a morgue

Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!
I think the nice light from a ring light outweighs the catchlights by a long shot. I have only ever heard photographers comment on "catchlights".
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!I love that effect in the eyes (the "catchlight").
And members will note there is a very reasonably priced Sigma Ringlight in the bargains list. It never ceases to fascinate me how we all like different things - I like #1, Chris like #3 and #4, some like the catchlights, some don't. Thanks for sharing these shots Dan, it has been very illuminating Greg - - - - D200 etc

Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Sorry, Cre8tivepixels, I stand corrected. No offence intended. I wasn't sure if the effect was intentional but you must admit their gaze is quite hypnotic. Number 4, as sirhc55 positively states could do with a different background. Also, as you correctly observed, I am not into fashion photography; nor I am a trend setter.
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Hey thats a neat effect. I've only seen these used for macro photography before and had actually thought about getting one. Noticing the effect they provide I'm even more convinced that I NEED one
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Love this stuff Dan! Different effect same as anyone can produce with a different medium on hand!
I like the style Jethro shoot it real.
look! and see. Shoot and feel
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!is #2-4 Belinda from Popstars?
I love ringlights and the catchlights, and want one bad, I love the light for portraits like these, nicely done, my faves are 2-4! Have you done anything particularly with the skin in PP with #1? Chris

Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Dan
Learn something everyday. I had no idea about catchlights until I saw these. I assumed that they were a post photograph processing component. That just shows that fashion is clearly not my area of knowledge. With #3 and #4, they are the same but different. I am interested in how much is the original lighting and photograph and how much is processing and adjusting the image. Is it possible to post #3 and #4 as raw images straight off the camera. (or does that give away too many secrets). As I look at more and more digital images, I realise that there is an art of photography and then there is the art of image adjustment. Separate but complementary. Thanks for posting them Philip
Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!Dan

Re: Ringlight - My New Fav Toy!HOT!
