Any Canon G9 users?G'day all,
(I know the G9 isn't a DSLR, but I'm after opinions from DSLR users) I've just moved to Melbourne and I'm looking for a camera to carry around with me everywhere. My 40D & 7 lenses don't really fit that category Really, even the 40D and one lens is too much for all day every day. So, I'm after something else. The Sigma DP1 looks great but is way too expensive for something that has a 28mm f4lens. So the obvious next cab off the rank is the G9. I can use all my Canon flash stuff with it, and it gets mostly really good reviews. (Here's a really interesting one, from a Leica M8 user: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/G9-Japan.shtml) Anyone here use one? I'm not after the same image quality as my 40D, but I can't take images with that at all if I don't have it with me. Thanks, much appreciated. (BTW, here's another couple of interesting links for G9 accessories) http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/G7.html http://kleptography.com/rf/ cheers, juice

Re: Any Canon G9 users?Check this thread out... http://www.dslrusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=29865
The general consensus was yes, it is a great camera. I still love using it when I could not be bothered taking the DSLR with me. Andrew
Nikon D3 and lot's of Nikon stuff!!
Re: Any Canon G9 users?
Thanks for that - I did a search earlier but it just kept saying "ignoring G9" and thus showing me every instance of "Canon"on the board, which was a touch over the top cheers, juice

Re: Any Canon G9 users?I brought the G9 for the same reason you are thinking of
D5 + 70-200ISf2.8 = 3kg after three hours = 6kg I sure and one sore shoulder Ozimax put some great shot from usa here from the G9 Tony
Re: Any Canon G9 users? How's this for deceptive?
I emailed Apus Computer & Communication about their G9 they advertise (found it on Staticice). Here's the exchange: --- G'day guys, is this covered by a Canon Australia warranty? cheers, juice ---
--- Entirely useless, so rang them, and was told it's not a Canon Au warranty, it's return to base. --- That was a very clear question, and got a very deceptive reply. (I rang you to find the truth.) If you think that's the way to get customers – ie try to fool them – I think you should reconsider. --- Suspect I won't get a reply to that one cheers, juice

Re: Any Canon G9 users?Would the G9 be any good for use for taking close up pics of electronic circuit boards?
At my work they production techs are required to photgraph their work after they have finished assembly. We currently have a D40 + 18-55 kit lens, but the guys on the production floor are struggling to get decent pics out of it. Would a G9 be better suited? Re: Any Canon G9 users?
What issues are they struggling with? The G9 does macro down to 1cm, so you can get nice and close. cheers, juice

Re: Any Canon G9 users? They are struggling with focusing mostly. Almost all pis appear blurred.
I am thinking of upgrading the lens and getting a flash or it just might be easier / cheaper for all to get a G9. D300+bat, D200+bat, 70-200VR, 18-200VR, 50f1.8, Tokina11-16f2.8, SB400, SB800
Re: Any Canon G9 users? If it's just shutter speed (Look @ the EXIF data) a flash should sort it out.

Re: Any Canon G9 users? Thanks Mic will do. Cant help but think that a G9 might be a bit more user friendly and better close up.

Re: Any Canon G9 users?I have thoroughly enjoyed my G9 over the last 10 weeks. Images are a bit noisy at higher ISO but hey, it has only a small sensor, but also has amazing capabilities for a P&S. I have hardly taken any photos recently, except for some HDRs with the G9. I enlarged one of these to 30"x24" and the quality is amazing.

Re: Any Canon G9 users?
Hope so. The battery is charging as we speak. I'm just hoping it won't show up my deficiencies as a photographer too much cheers, juice

Re: Any Canon G9 users? You'll be sweet Mick. I use P mode, adjust exposure as required, and off you go. I rarely use 12mp as it makes for big files but they're there if you need them.
The manual takes some reading to get through, which is why I havn't read it yet! This camera can do an awful lot of things, including time lapse photography. It is excellent for HDR images. Ozi. President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)

Re: Any Canon G9 users?Had a quick play on the tram home last night, also reading the manual. Feels very solid.
A couple of interesting links for G9 accessories (why are there always more bits to buy?): Thanks to everyone for their help - much appreciated. http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/G7.html http://kleptography.com/rf/ cheers, juice
