City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)What a weekend! Had an absolute ball! After being to national level drag racing events and seeing how they are run (NOT) to a schedule it was amazing to see how tightly the V8SC round kept to the posted schedule. A job well done by all of the officials, competitors and organisers!
I was using the D200 with a Sigma 120-300 + 1.4 TC for the weekend, as well as the 70-200 coupled with SB-800 or the 18-70 kit lens coupled with the SB-800. Here are a small selection of the images from over the weekend, I hope they convey the excitement that is V8SC racing. Nikon D200, Sigma 120-300 f2.8, Sigma 1.4 TC Nikon D200, Sigma 120-300 f2.8, Sigma 1.4 TC Nikon D200, Nikon 18-70 f3.5-4.5, Nikon SB-800 Nikon D200, Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon SB-800 While I tried to concentrate on other things that just a straight pan, here are a couple for those that love them, panning at 1/125th, at 1/80th and at 1/30th although the last is WAY tight! Comments always welcomed. Thanks Brett

Re: City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)Great work here Brett, all very sharp and colourful (#1 good timing) and you are right - a representative thread of the day
Question - with #1, was S/S is this ? Probably most of the day you have a slow S/S for panning, but this is quite fast, so, I'm wondering what/how you manage that tactically on the day. Darren

Re: City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)Nice Brett, it's interesting to see how closely they operate the V8's. Because of TV rights mainly. If you ever get a chance, try to steal a 'minute by minute'. They are closely gaurded, even Dirk has troubles getting one.... They literally rin the day minute by minute. Support races are hacked to bits to make sure the V8's start when they should.
Great pics mate, really good. 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)Thanks all for the comments.
1st pic was, 1/320th, f7.1 @340mm. My shutter speed will vary over the day from 1/30th, 1/60th, 1/80th, 1/125th, 1/160th, 1/200th, 1/250th, 1/320th, 1/400th and even up to 1/800th! It really depends on what I am trying to achieve at the time, whilst I like to stay around 1/125th this is not always practical. In this case it was pure luck that I was at 1/320th at the time, although I was following the whole incident from the initial lockup to the final standstill If shooting in Shutter Priority (which I will do during significantly changing lighting conditions) it is easy to spin the back command dial to change the speed in an instant as my thumb is always there for the AF-ON button anyway. Although I do usually shoot in Manual mode more often than not. Hope that helps
Re: City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)Great Series Brett. These are great and I never knew that they had HRT shoes as well!

Re: City of Ipswich 400 (V8 Supercar Round 7)Nice shots Brett, all sharp and plenty of colour. The pit shot also shows what a good lens the std 18-70 is.
