G'day everyone, another newbie

Postby stevo on Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:46 pm

G'day all.

Congrats on the site... I stumbled accross it doing a google search for an online company that I've just purchsed a new 40D kit off.

It looks like it'll be very usefull as I try and learn to drive my new toy.. when it gets here ... hopefully

I used to have a Ricoh KR10 many years back with a good selection of lenses and then bought a Canon EOS 1000 about 1991 from memory... Unfortunately I then realised how good the KR was  .. Mind you it was certainly easier to lug the Canon around with one lense than the box that had all my goodies in it for the Ricoh..

I used a mate's D80 a couple of weeks back to take pics at his wedding and it sort of woke the bug up.

I'll have a look around and try and glean as much as I can before I ask too many stupid questions... I know what it's like as I run my own tech forum based on motorcycles and have modded for years on other sites..

Cheers

Howdy Stevo. Townsville rocks, been there many times. Enjoy the site. There's plenty of old stuff to feast your eyes upon. Enjoy the new camera too.

Well my new Canon 40D arrived today....... so I guess I can be a proper member, seeing as I now have a DSLR

I bought it online thru Etech ... Hopefully I wont have to find out how good their warranty service is  but I was looking at 20d's going for around $700 on ebay and figured a few hundred more and I could get a new current model, then decided to buy a kit as it was a fair bit cheaper than a bare body locally...

Gotta say it's a nice piece of kit too, certainly the best camera I've had to date and the 17-85 lense looks good..

Well that's about the end of my introductions... so now I've got to learn how to drive it and buy some more lenses and filters and flash and more lenses and and and and and and

Anyone got a cheap 75-200 f2.8L for sale ? :cough:

I think I'll be frequenting the Canon Coral and picking everyones brains..

Welcome Steve, especially to a fellow Canonite! Beware mate, there's a heap of crazy Nikongeezers here but they're pretty harmless!

It's a great forum. Btw, you are a Suzuki man? :)

G'day Ozi what're you riding?

Out of the jappas I have a preference for suzukis. Strong motors and fairly interchangeable parts when ya customising/stunting.

Currently running an '03 GSXR1000 that I've streetfightered and an SV650 aswell as a '98 HD sporty that's my play bike.

Also got my own workshop/toyshop and a heap of other bikes in various stages of "project".

I've got a small motorcycle/tech forum set up at stevos-shed.com .. drop over n have a look if ya want although you'll have to join to look around. We had a heap of trouble with spammers and the only way we could stop 'em at that time was to close access to restricted user groups and I havn't got around to opening it up yet, I'm not all that computer savvy and it seems to take up a heap of time whenever I try and change settings.

Welcome stevo.

Hope you enjoy your new toy. Almost bought the 40D myself but went the Pentax K20d route instead.
You will be a mile in front when LBA sets in with the Canon.

My other toy is a 1200 Bandit. Had it for 10 years and still in awe of it.

Keep the shiny side up
