Well I just had a good size order from Servaas delivered today. 8)

Chose to wait for one item which was on backorder for about 3 days.

Very well packed and all jammed into a 3kg Express post bag (just)

Whoever packs there - "giftwrapped" everything very tidily in bubble wrap

Cheers

A charger.
16 AA Imedion batteries
AAA Imedion batteries
AA Eneloop and the cheap timer charger pack.
4 4AA battery cases.

All up about $210 delivered. About a $20 forum discount on all that 8)

For:

New C9000 Charger to replace the old charger which broke internally.
Just a bit of stuff to keep the SB-800 happy, (3 x 5AA sets or 4 x 4AA sets).
AAA for a mouse, MP3 player.
AA Eneloop for the Canon S1 IS P&S.
Battery cases to keep the odds & ends tidy (older NiMH sets used in remotes etc).

How are you finding the refresh rate of the IMEDIONs in the SB-800?

Can you give us some feedback on how long between shots, and for how many shots?

I have just ordered the 9000 and 16 Imedions and 16 eneloops.

Also yes, I want to know about the refresh rates for flashes for the Imedions and the Eneloops (but most importantly the Powerex 2700 if anybody have got them) because I can't wait. :P

I'll have a look sometime - was at a wedding over the weekend and took a lot of shots (8Gb of Compressed NEF+JPEG) - but 5 AA's in the SB800 did at least say 200 shots, recycle time was fine for normal single shot sequences, apart from when I switched to 5fps for the bouquet sequence.

I will have to have a play.

I had used 5 Imedions straight from the packet as shipped the weekend before for another wedding in the SB800, didn;t take anywhere near as many shots (maybe 50-70 with SB800) and they still discharged about 800mAh when I ran them on the charger.

I'd add my words for Jeff here. I ordered 100x Eneloop batteries, customer service and shipping was really good.

They arrived nicely packed in boxes and nicely packed. :D

And got to say, Eneloops are the best thing in battery out there!! Can't believe how I survived without these before!

3 questions for you:
1 What flash are you using them in?
2 how is the refresh rate/burst rate?
3 how many shots are you seeing from a set of batteries?

1 - 1x SB800 and 2x SB28
2 - The best I've ever seen!! Didnt even use the 5th battery and it refreshes great!
3 - Used 4x Eneloops in each flash for couple 10am-11pm weddings, the flash(es) stayed on 80% of the time, and by time I get home I still got battery juices left over!

Bloody Amazing, they are...

Powerex/Imedion/eneloop battery life in flash

Postby servaasproducts on Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:47 pm

Cool, thanks for the feedback. These are the sorts of things a lot of photographers are asking.

Anyone else want to share how their Powerex 2700mAh/Imedion 2100mAh/eneloop 2000mAh batteries are performing, now that they have had them for a few weeks and put them through their paces?

Specifically what flash are you using them in, what refresh rates are you seeing, and how many times can you fire the flash till empty?

I've got to give a thumbs up to Jeff as well. I ordered some stuff from him and Australia post has stuffed up the delivery and Jeff was awesome and sent a second package and is taking care of the first one without me having to worry. It's fantastic and excellent service.

Another thumbs up from here - I didn't get a chance to post earlier as I was moving from Perth to Melbourne (in a bit of a hurry, to say the least), but Jeff's information and service was first-class.

And I'm seriously impressed with the Imedions in my 550EXs - the time they stay fresh, and the recycle times are great.
cheers, juice

I just got a 401FS and 8x Imedions...let's see if they're any good :)

packet was strangely slashed on one of the sets of batteries (so would have gone in the post packaging like that) but otherwise ok.

Hi Mickey, obviously something is wrong with our packing process if goods are being sent with damaged packaging. So I can address this, can you please give me more information about the location and size of the slash?

Jeff continues to come up trumps.

Charger plus batteries arrived promptly in time for my first 'serious' work shoot starting tomorrow.

The extra cases and two extra Imedions AAs were gratefully accepted.

Cant wait to use the 8fps on the D700 and to have batteries I can rely on.

Great business Jeff!

Another happy customer!!

My first order (8x Imedion AA, 4x Imedion AAA, 4x Eneloop AA, Travel Charger) arrived safely and well packed. Although I did think I only received half my batteries because someone placed two packs into the charger box. Express post is worth it!!

I just received my C9000 charger & Powerex 2700mAh's today.....Thanks so much for your help Jeff. I would be interested to hear how the 2700's have been performing for everyone?
Also, what is the best charge rate to set the C9000 on for the 2700's in charge mode, refresh mode etc? I don't clearly understand the "General battery education" section...

Hi Snappd, the recommended charge rate is between .3 to 1.0 x C where C equals capacity. Generally slower is better. So if you take C = 2700mah in your case, .3 x 2700 = 810 mah, so a suggestion would be to set the charge rate from 800mah up, say maybe 1,000mah for your batteries. That is a nice slow charge but ensures the batteries terminate (stop) correctly so they don't get cooked.

If using the break in mode just set the battery capacity (2700) and let the charger do the work, it will calculate everything for you.

If you wanted some info on how the Powerex AA 2700mah performs this really intelligent, useful, fantastic and authoritative site has 3 tests of AA batteries and chargers including the Powerex AA Battery, Imedion AA battery and Maha MH-C 9000 charger: http://wolfeyes.com.au/news/?paged=2

My pleasure :)

I'll leave that one for others to share. Being a more casual shooter, I mostly use the IMEDIONS now.

A widely accepted "middle of the road" charge rate is 0.5C, which means 0.5 x Capacity. In the case of the 2700mAh's, 0.5x2700 = 1350mA/h. Its also easy to do maths with 0.5C, just halve the battery capacity :)

As the MH-C9000 charge rate can be set in increments of 100mA, you could comfortably round up to 1400mA. In practice, I tend to use the default 1000mA, which is a little slower, but I have plenty of batteries around so I am never left waiting :)

Most battery companies recommend a maximum charge rate of 1C, so for the 2700mAh's that would be a charge rate of 2700mA. The maximum charge rate of the MH-C9000 is 2000mA, so the 2700mAh's can comfortably accept that charge rate.

A recommended maximum discharge rate is 0.5C.

Powerex and IMEDION flash refresh rate

Postby servaasproducts on Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:52 pm

Just a followup on the refresh rate of the Powerex 2700's or the Powerex IMEDION's in their flash?

This is a common question and I would love your feedback.

Slightly :ot: here but i was not far into an initial break-in cycle of my powerex 2700's when that storm hit us up here in Brissy & the power went off briefly. It was approx 350 mins into the first charge cycle. I was hoping it would take off from where it was stopped but no such luck......so what now, do I start from the start again?

i've never had a refresh issue with either the imedions or the powerex's so it cant be too bad.
i have found though that when left idle, the imedions seem to lose their charge much faster than the eneloops especially.

snappd - you could email Jeff at Servaas, or I'd suggest just setting a manual discharge program up, then starting the break in again.

I forget if the break in first discharges the batteries (as they are shipped out charged anyway). If it does, then I wouldn't worry about the manual discharge program.
